Firestone Little Country 3 III questions

Hi,

Can someone with a Firestone Little Country 3 please let me know the follow?

  1. Does the Pre amp or bypass output get disabled when headphones get plugged in?  The preouts are still active when I plug in headphones.
  2. Is there HUM with headphones below 32ohms?  There is a HUM with 16ohm and 25ohm headphones on mine.  Nothing is plugged into the amp except power and headphones.  It's loud enough to be annoying.  Not as noticeable with 32ohm or higher.  At least I can tolerate it.  Is this inherit of all tube amps?
  3. Doe the bypass out only bypass volume control or does it bypass the tubes as well?

Thanks

You probably aren't gonna get too much info on the LCIII here. It's not a very popular amp amongst head-fiers it seems. I was thinking of buying it and couldn't find anybody who had any experience with it. There were only a couple of older threads regarding this amp that were of little help to me. From what I can recall, based on my research, was that 32ohms was as low as you wanted to go, but that it does slightly favor low impedance cans. It would be nice if someone like Skylab, who has a lot of experience with tube/hybrid amps, could do an A/B comparison with the LCIII and Schiit Lyr, being that they're both hybrid amps that cost the same ($450).

I've briefly owned this horrid sounding amp(talk about giving a bad name to tubes biggrin.gif):

1) no

2) I didn't get any hum when using the 32 Ω/104 dB MDR-CD3000, but the head-fier I sold it to complained about hum when using Grado's...not sure what's going on here?!

3) the opamp is only used for DC servo, so it won't bypass the tubes.
