Well, the first and primary school is in Toronto - just north of Steeles on Yonge.

I haven't been able to walk since 2006.  Been on crutches or in a wheelchair ever since, lol.  I have a rare condition in my ankles, both sides and have had 5 reconstructions back to back since then.  I just had the 5th one 2 weeks ago.  Its been hell but I push through it, the last opp was an ankle fusion.  Its not likely I will be getting back into anything else but Aikido though, it has the least amount of impact on the ankle compared to kickboxing and my MMA days.  :P

I wish I had an answer for You, were You trying to do 360's one leg at a time with Your foot firmly planted or a really bad accident if You do not mind Me asking.

Its a genetic condition, it wasnt the result of any injury heh ;)  Sometime in 06' both ankles started falling apart.

But back to my ground game, it is really bad.  Im only 5'5 and at the time around 125lbs or so.  I simply didn't have the physical strength, reach or leverage to win a ground fight.  I studied my butt off in kickboxing and striking to avoid going to the ground, as I was always pitted against very tall people lol and that was just so annoying lol

aikido is banned in MMA matches, so it was useless to attempt to use any of the techniques, the sad fact is they work and are immensely effective, but will permanently disable whoever I use it on.  Its banned for a reason :P  But I cant wait to get back into practicing it.

That's to bad, but I love the positive attitude You have. Some people just give up and feel sorry for themselve's. Your right about the ground game it's everyone's cup of tea, I never studied and I wish I had before messing the good old back up (lower) and when it act's up it's hell and some nerve damage in the r. shoulder.

Aikido is a form I would like to take up, but the work schedule conflict's with it and yeah I know motivation has a lot to do with it. Back to Your ankle's, is there anything else that can be done about Your condition and if not how much worse will it get.

This last opp was the final step before total amputation.  Im too young for an ankle replacement and would have had to have one every 10 years for the rest of my life if i had chosen that route.  So, the only other alternatives are amputation or ankle fusion.  I chose the fusion.  I literally did not have any cartilage in my ankle join at all, 0%.  I was also missing 25% of the ankle itself, bone spurs and floating bones the size of rocks were lodged inside of that joint itself, so it was like walking on glass or with a rock stuck right inbetween your shin bone and your ankle, right in that joint area where they meet lol

its been hell and then some, lots of nerve damage ( the worst, I feel your pain on that one ) But ya, if i dont keep positive I'll just fall into a dark hole, and I definitely dont want to do that :)   But let me tell ya, ankle fusion is the worst opp in terms of pain you can have outside of something to do with your tailbone as I am told.  Its bad, but thanks to the nerve damage this last opp has been immense easy, im not in that much pain at all and it feels very strong right now.  I get out of the cast in mid july, so ive a long way to go :]

I'm completely speechless on this, it's taken a few minute's to come back with something to say to You. I Hope You Know You have many Brother's and Sister's out here and don't You forget that, anytime You need an ear just PM Me and I'll call You by phone or We'll start a thread just for this.

That means a lot, but im doing just fine.  I wouldn't worry, its only been 2 weeks since the opp and my leg feels fantastic.  The stitches come out in 2 weeks.  Im pretty much an open book and I prefer to keep the leg issues open and public, so that if anyone else searches for Ankle Fusion or happens to know me and needs something like it, I can offer advice and let them know what to expect.  Anyway, enough of the depressive stuff, lets get back to martial arts WAAA CHAA :)

I would love to hear from you and what your experiences are--

Hey, I have a blue belt in BJJ, been grappling for about 4 years or so.  I actually started no-gi but find the gi game to be a bit more interesting now days.  Probably cuz I’m getting older and slower, lol.   I have Eddies books and DVDs but never did use much of his stuff.  Maybe the lockdown sometimes in half-guard or his reverse kesa side control but that twister and rubber guard stuff is too crazy for me.  I think we actually had a 10th Planet school in Vancouver for awhile and I think Ari (Sub 101) still has his 10th Planet school in Victoria. I have trained with a bunch of folks but perhaps the most “well known” (outside of seminars) would be Dennis Kang (Marcus Soares), Stephan Kesting (Marcus Soares) and Shane Rice (Rickson Gracie), who are local.
