I'm listening to the ZX700 right now.

Not bad, but two points that bother me: bass extension is extremely poor. Electronic beats are unbearable and the overall resolution is too low (not for the price, though).
The Z1000 will fix both points, I guess! Might be really sweet.

I also didn't know there's an iPhone version. I really want that instead! I have a girl who's in Japan right now. She could get the iPhone version for me. Hmm...

How long have you been using them for? I've been listening/burning-in for about 18 hours now and they sound is STILL changing. I left the phones on my S9, while playing at max volume, for about 6 hours today while i was out of the house; the bass got much stronger.

I find it odd no one complained about the comfort of the ZX700 so far. IMO the cups are too shallow. The drivers press down against my ears and it's quite painful for a circumaural can.

Thanks for the review, i just ordered the zx700's thanks to you.

but i have one question because some other reviewers say that the bass in the 700's may be a bit rolled off and not really balanced so i wanted to ask a trusted source if this is true :)

The bass on the ZX700 is not boomy or emphasized in any way.  If you want to bump it, you may want to consider the XB series.  If you want mild manor GREAT sound for all types of music under $100, the ZX700 is your guy.

 

I plan on getting the iPhone version (DR-ZX700ip) as well for road use.

I would love to see a more experienced head fi'er compare the Sony's (both V6 and new ZX700) to the current monitor/sutdio heapdhones recommended in this price range class

Brainwavz HM5

Shure SRH440

Senheiser 280 pro

I can't speak about the SRh840, but I have compared it to the Sony MDR-V600 and the V600 has a wider soundstage.  Perhaps due to the larger cups.  Here's what the V600 looks like.

Sadly not available in the UK. You can get an addon remote extension cable but it adds more length which is not ideal for portable use.

I have the same problem and haven't been able to find a solution yet. Please post when you find replacement pads or another fix
