So my old faithful Weller EC3002 finally gave out, it had a good life, RIP.

I am leaning towards the Weller WES51 but the new Hakko FX-888 is pretty nice looking also.

Any input? anyone tried both? Opions or advice on ether is welcome

I have been quite happy with my WES51.

Where I used to work, they used a Hakko,

but I don't remember the model. I think

either one will serve you well.

I used a Weller WESD51 (digital) at work when I made my three AlienDACs, GrubDAC and SSMH. It performed fantastically well (although I had a little trouble with the first two AlienDACs, but 1) PCM2702s are a pain to solder, 2) I chalk it up to inexperience more than the station). I imagine the analog version is not much different. Pick the right tip and temperature and I imagine the WES51 can handle pretty much anything you throw at it.
