ALO Audio or Whiplash?

Im trying to decide wheather i should get an ALO or Whiplash custom cable for a pair of SE535? I love the silver cable that Whiplash uses, but i also love the copper cable that ALO has?. The only thing i hate is the $300 price point, i wish someone had one used for salevery_evil_smiley.gifAnyways, what do you guys think?

The problem it seem's Your having is the price point and that's understanding, the silver or copper aspect is truly up to You, some like the silver and many prefer the copper. You could take a look at Moon Audio for the cable's also, they have silver or copper and it's not as pricey. Just another option to check out, some say it really does not make a difference in the sound between stock and custom and it's really up to the individual.

Drew@Moon Audio is not making custom cables for the SE535.

Sorry Pal, I thought I had another option for You, I wish I could help You further with this, Good Luck in Your decision.

Since you're asking, the price point is an issue, so either keep looking or ask one of our local MOT cable makers if they would make a cable for you. Or make it yourself, would be a good experience.

x2, id love to learn, and since summer is coming up maybe that is a possibility. I do have many different colored cables i would love to have to have some variety, but supplies are expensive especially when you have to buy in bulk.

Another option is to shoot an e-mail over to Steve Eddy at Q-audio and see if he'd be willing to make you a cable.  He communicates well and responds quickly.  He may quote you a better price than the aforementioned $300.

The website for Q is http://www.q-audio.com/.  The cables are copper in Type 2 Litz.  There's more reading on the site if you're interested in how it's built.

Not having heard it myself, I can't give you a personal recommendation to purchase it, but Skylab and kwkarth got LCD-2 cables done by him, and say they're good.  If you're willing to slog through the Aftermarket LCD-2 Cable thread (http://www.head-fi.org/forum/thread/533209/lcd-2-owners-which-aftermarket-cable-do-you-use) I'm sure you can find their thoughts.  Just another idea for something to possibly research as far as viable options go.

I have e-mailed him about other stuff though, and from that experience I can tell you he's good at communicating.

Thanks, but 1.6 feet of interconnects are $300.

Ive dealt with all the audio companies several times, I recommend moon audio the most in terms of price, quality and customer service. never had an issue. theyve got good IEM cables too.

Whiplash is taking forever these days, a month and a half for a simple job, and one of the connectors i bought off them, protector to 1/8th jack, twisted right off... I found it badly made. I talked to another member with the same product who said the exact same happened to him...they sent him a new one and guess what, same thing happened. :-/ BUT you can get a really good deal on a TWAG cable in the used forum

ALO I had two terrible experiences with, they had very bad customer service and it got mean fast... basically they refused to repair a cable I bought from theirs worth $500. they said the repair job of changing the termination and adding HD800 connectors would cost them over $500 in labor. (moon audio fixed it for me for $50). ALO also accused me of trying to rip them off by sending DIY wire even though their logo was stamped all over it. rather than admit their mistake they got mean and told me I shouldn't have ruined a 'perfectly good cable' ... I was never treated that badly, and its ironic considering they have the mission statement all over the site that 'they're in it to help their customers' what a joke... to summarize BEWARE dealing with ALO

Website is not up to date and the prices therein do not reflect actual pricing for cables.  Just linked it for the purposes of cable build information.

Hmm, I've been using Blue Jean Cables lately which is comparatively cheaper but they don't do headphone cables afaik.

Andrew stop C&P your problems (if they even are) all over Head-Fi. You have blown up several threads about this and you wont be blowing up mine. I can almost guarantee you can/will/may be banned for this kind of behavior. Everything in audio cant be perfect, you have to be hands on with electronics to understand that sometimes things go wrong. ALO and Whiplash have had their share of problems, and plenty of good ones that shove their problems out the door. If you have had a problem with whoever, contact them and get it resolved. Dont post your problems for all of Head-Fi to see.

Um, connectors do that, that's how they're put together. Don't twist them off...

Whoa, easy there champ.  He just wanted to describe his experiences with those manufacturers.  He's not expecting you to take what he says as gospel, but just more as a warning, as based on his reflections on his unique situation.  It goes without saying that one incident is not generalizable to an entire business model, but negative occurrences tend to remain poignant in one's mind.  Besides, you asked for opinions in your very first post, and in accordance with your wishes, he gave his opinion.  If you don't want to hear what people have to say, then the weak link in the cause and effect chain was asking for opinions in the first place.

I understand, but you have to understand this isnt his first time. He had been harassing Head-Fi forum's that ALO was trying to scam him. If he had a problem (call ALO audio) there was no need to post in on Head-Fi 5+ times and having to get moderators/administrators involved.
