So I just got into the audiophilia world, and by new I mean my amp to power my headphones just arrived yesterday and today at work, all I can think about is getting home to listen to my HD650's purr me some melodic, heavy, grimey Dubstep
!!! This has prompted me to really think about music composition and just how much I reallllllyyyyy love a funky, dirty, get down electronic song.
That being said, I just wanted to start a very general discussion on the world of electronica, hopefully with a dub/dnb/IDM/industrial slant. It may just be the mood I'm in caused by the Mimosa-"Pandora" song I've been listening to on repeat since 10:30am, but I just wanted to start a forum for people to throw the artists they're currently listening to around so other people can be opened up to the goodness that they've been listening to.
I'll start: Right now, I'm listening to a lot of "Mimosa". Hes a dub/IDM artist out of San Francisco and even though I just started listening to him yesterday, I can tell that I'm going to be listening to a lot of him in the upcoming years. Plus, hes playing a show tonight in my area! I'm really stoked to get a live rendition to compare the FLAC files I have at home to. A few of my favorite tracks by him are "Pandora", "58 Degrees","Stairway" and "Badlands". "Pandora" is a funky Nintendo glitchy song that makes me want to tell everyone I come in contact with just how much I appreciate life! I know it sounds like I'm on something right now but I'm not, unless you count a copious amount of green tea as a substance. "58 Degrees" has a heavier industrial feel to it. It makes you want to put on your grit face and just stomp around your office all day. It has a nice harmony that fits in nicely with the industrialness of the overall song, very well placed IMO.
Another artist I've really been liking is "Nit Grit". Hes another dubstepper from the bay area, SJ specifically. I really like the melodic approach he takes to his music production. While most of the craze right now revolves around bro-step and the glitchy all over the place production, "Nit Grit" takes the wobble, synth, harmonic route that you really need to give a listen to to udnerstand the overall feel of it. A few songs to help you out with your introduction to him would be "Grit Shifter", "Prituri Se Planinata" by Stellamara (NiT GriT Remix), and one of my favorites, "The awakening". Just a quick note in-case you are one of those people who give a song a quick brush through to decide if you like it or not: Nit's music is very progressive in nature and you need to give the song in its entirety a listen to before you pass judgement. You hear that alot, but its crucial specifically for his music.
And lastly for now due to time constraints, "Akira Kiteshi". Still haven't got the specifics on this artist, but I really like his style. A good song to get an overall impression would be "Afterglow (Akira Kiteshi Remix)". I will admit that this is one of his more melodic songs thats a lot like the production style of Nit Grit. That being said, he has a pretty cool glitch style song by the title of "Pinball" that uses some noises from the pinball game native to a lot of windows users.
Please post anything really! I'm interested in spreading the knowledge of people's current artist tastes and also analyze how it sounds on a nice setup.
