Digital Interface Hum Noise

Hi guys,

I am hearing terrible noise with my new Audio GD Digital Interface when I listen with my WA 6 SE, while with my Schiit Asgard, it's dead silent...

Any clue why ?

I purchased a power supply 7.5 V with 800 MA... No change for the Woo, big change with the Asgard...(noise disappeared)

Here's the configuration:

Notebook -> USB cable to USB hub -> USB to DI -> SPDIF to Audio-GD REF5 -> RCA output to WA 6 SE    &   XLR/RCA to Schitt Asgard

Now I can't listen to the Woo anymore, it's horrible...

I use Foobar 2000 if it could help....

If you have any clue how to correct this, I'd appreciate...

Did you try to connect the usb directly to the REF-5 to see if the sound is still there? Did you try running the DI without the supply, just using USB power?

Good suggestion.. it will be my next step.... USB to REF5...

I just purchased the Power Supply and before I had noise in both Asgard and Woo and now, only with the Woo. Moreover, when I remove the PS from my netbook, everything is perfect. This is why I think the problem comes from the USB....and I've tried both USB port....

It's a cheap MSI notebook....you know, the $250...

What kills me is that I had no problem with my M2Tech before, and silly me I sold it mad.gif

Yeah that's the first time I hear about a hum noise with the DI.

I'd liek to know what's causing this.

If the hum goes away when you your laptop runs from the battery it is likely to be a ground loop problem. You might want to check : http://www.epanorama.net/documents/groundloop/index.html

Thanks.....I've tried that too....

Everything was perfect with the M2Tech......now, it sounds horrible with the DI but only with the Woo...not the Asgard,,,,

Hate this....

I just wrote to him.....maybe he has an idea.... I also tried with my Antique Sound Lab tube amp.....same result... The tube amps don't seem to like the DI !!!!

Next, I'll try with another laptop....I know mine is a cheap one, maybe with a better one....we'll see

i emailed Edwin with the same problem, he said that i should send the DI back to them.

but... i'm not sure that this problem can be repaired by them.

and i'm getting really disappointed by Audio-gd lately.

first - it's enormously long waiting time between paying them and receiving actual devices, and then _this_ problem shows up :(

Denys, are you saying that this problem stays only on tube amps?

did you try SS amps?

Yes, I tried with my Schiit Asgard... no hum.... Try your laptop without the power supply, just the battery. You should have your answer right there....

If the sound is good, just do what I mentioned in the other thread and your problem will be solved....for a buck and a half !!!!
