Well, i was really disappointed with the last episode of the season. I was expecting more.

I need to get back to that. At one point I had read the first two and was part way through the third, and stopped when I wasn't in a reading phase....but I have a stack of other books piled up to read, in addition to these which are in digital form.

Of course, if I read more, I'll be on the computer less....

GRRM's writing style has its issues, but the books are a fast read given how long they are.  I was averaging a book every two weeks when I went through the first four several years ago.

What issues?

I like the way he uses the character narrative. Each chapter told from a character's point of view. Also makes it easy to skip parts if some character is boring.

+1

No clue what happened to this thread. In my opinion, each season takes a little time to spool up. But I think that is the planned progression, and this season is just as a good as any season before it. Excellent craft, and a lot of heartfelt loss.

Most cinema these days miss that point. You cannot show me a person for 30 seconds, and expect me, as an audience member, to have an attachment or sympathy to their plight. Compare the original version of King Kong, where we felt attachment with each of the characters as they voyaged towards the strange island. As they each encountered the horrors of Kong Island, we felt sympathy for them. We knew them! But bring it to the modern version - too much action, too quickly! I feel sympathy for no one, but Kong. The rest of the human cast could have sunk in the Ocean, and I would have felt not a thing.

The way the Game of Thrones story gives the audience physical, emotional attachment to its characters is amazing. The ways it surprisingly takes them away keeps us engaged in the story, and hoping, wishing, feeling sympathy for those lost, and even more attachment to those who survive and keep going towards what I hope will be a moving end to the story.
