Hifiman HM-801 - Am I hearing this?

Just for the heck of it, I took the battery out of my HM-801 and ran the AC plug straight into it. The sound seemed to have improved with a larger soundstage and cleaner presentation. Any HM-801 owners out there? Please try this and tell me what you find.

I haven't done any critical comparisons of the HM-801 with and without the battery, but it doesn't surprise me.  Fang told me that the stock (bigger) power supply provides better sound quality than the slimmer one (obviously he meant when listening without the battery).  And people talk about extra power improving the sound with digital transports, DACs, and amps, so it makes sense.

Ohhh, I actually do have the big power supply that gets really warm. I guess when I'm home I'll disconnect the battery and run it straight to the wall from now on.bigsmile_face.gif
