Entry-level turntable

Thread Starter

So I'm looking to get a cheap turntable and start a vinyl collection. However, I don't know much at all about turntables, so I was wondering if this would be a good starting point:

I don't want to spend the $500+ it takes to get a new entry level turntable, but I don't know much about second hand turntables (like which ones are a good deal). So does anyone have suggestions, or would the one I linked be decent?

There's a thread here about inexpensive turntables - I'm posting from the phone and can't dig it up, but it's there.

Don't worry too much about buying secondhand. There are lots of terrific values out there. You can get all the literature you need to fix up a deck from the Vinyl Engine and there are a few companies that sell all the parts you'll need for most popular decks.

If you're willing to go $500 in, I'd look for a used Rega P3/Planar 3 on Audiogon. They have sensational tonearms and there's a cottage industry producing tweaks and upgrades.

If you are looking to be a turntable online you need to make sure you buy from someone who has experience in shipping turntables.  That is why I would only buy from a dealer or someone locally to avoid getting a turntable that has been damaged.
