Total Bithead problem

Thread Starter

Hey everyone! I have a problem.

I got a Total Bithead about 4 months ago, and have loved it until now. However, it has developed a rather awful problem: after about 30 seconds of sound, it emits a HORRIFYING screech, very loud and akin to feedback, regardless of the audio source. It's awful, and makes the Bithead unusable. Any suggestions to what might be causing this?

I'm assuming you've tried both line-in and USB sources to eliminate that, as well as changing the gain switch.

It sounds like your opamp is for some reason saturating, causing severe clipping.  The consistent time until this happens makes me think component overheating is to blame - perhaps a short somewhere.  If you have a DMM you could do some simple resistance checks on it - datasheet with pinout is here: http://html.alldatasheet.net/html-pdf/98105/BURR-BROWN/OPA4743/501/1/OPA4743.html.

I'd call up David ( a new employee at HeadRoom, but a Headphone Supremus on Head-Fi) and they may fix it for free if its under warrenty.

David's at Headphones, not Headamp, but it probably wouldn't hurt to contact Headamp about the problem.
