HiFiman HE-500 (HE as in High End) Proving to be an enjoyable experience in listening. . - Page 591

So the WA22 handled well for a headphone amp and only 1.5W?

1.5w rating is with stock power tubes. With upgraded tubes, I believe there's a bit more gain so far. I m in search of better driver tubes before commenting any further but yes, wa22 could drive he500 well with tung sol 7236 power tubes. For rocking level, it takes the volume knob to 12 o clock.

The wa22 i had actually didnt do too bad with he-6, wasnt anything special, but it did better than wa6-se which clipped pretty quickly. The push pull design i think does well with orthos.

I didnt really bother to listen too much with he-500 cause the gsx mk2 is much better at driving them, but the wa22 is a pretty nice he-500 amp with 7236/5998, expensive though and im sure theres better for less

Oh btw, im not too sure on stratus now.

How come, DSG?

The used one after pp fees, shipping to and from mr.dna, voltage change and upgrade cost, its basically about the same as a new stratus, maybe 100$ cheaper, and id get it a little sooner, but no money left over for tube rolling either unless i sold hifimans, still, and im not even sure its what i want. Im going to listen to a glenn otl amp soon and ill be able to see if i like that or not, or just buy a wa2 again..

I might just end up saving all my tubes and sticking with gsx till i save up and find something else i want

Cough BC cough custommade headphone Tube amp on batteries..cough cough biggrin.gif
And u forget another very good tube to drive a he500/6 the also very strong bendix 6080WB graphite colums..its weird it gets so little interest compared to the infamous 5998 or the 7236.. Okay i admit..the bendix is harder to get.. But i preferred that tube OVER the more expensive 5998 on many areas.. And not only on soundstage and controlled deep bass..its also more detaily and sounds more liquid..more natural then the others.

i havent had a chance to test out the bendix 6080wb that much, but i will on the Glenn OTL amp i'll be auditioning.

i stuck witth TS 5998 on the WA22, i could barely notice a difference with any of them, with the bendix, it was the most obvious change, however, i didn't really take the time to evaluate it, i'll do that with the glenn otl, or a WA2.
