Right now, my plan is to get Modi+Magni/Vali, but I just wanted to check in and see if anyone thinks there's a better option out there, with similar dimensions.

You know mine are decent out of my Fiio E12 Mont Blanc amp. make sure it's on 'high gain' though!

a Nuforce uDAC2 and the Fiio E12 might suffice!

Well there is a uDAC3 now also I suppose

So would a good, reasonably priced tube amp like the La Figaro 339 be a better amp for these headphones than my Burson Soloist? I've just ordered a pair and can't wait to hear them.

I am not sure about 339 but there's a HE500 owner who runs them off a 337 with upgraded tubes.  According to him, he really like the SQ.

hifimanrookie is the one I am referring to.  You might want to PM him for more info.

What about the Centrance Hifi-M8?

The Soloist is very capable of driving the HE-500 and is said to be a good pairing too synergy wise. I think you should wait till it arrives before you decide if you want to swap the amp or not.

Great reason.  I am taking donation btw.  Kidding aside, while my Mini-X is more than capable of driving the HE500 to my liking,  I got a Woo amp coming in a few days to see if there's some other sound signature I might enjoy from the HE500.  :D

There was a WA5 on eBay the other day. Look like it's been snapped up.

Nope, WA22.  I will run it balanced from my DAC.  Let's see if it can keep up with the $200 Mini-X.

Nope, straight from Woo Audio.  It took them 6 days to build the amp.  Wicked fast.

The wa22 isn't supposed to be that good with he-500?

Will the HE-500 work well with the Burson HA-160DS?
