damn..wish i had so much cash to spend whenever i wanted.. biggrin.gif oh well..i am lucky in love wink.gif

Buy it back from your friend.  Tell him you pay him $50 monthly.  He seems rich beyond normal standard.  I don't think he'll turn you down since you guys are friends.

That's what I'll do if I were you.  ;)

Thanks for the tip koiloco...but..
Money here is not really an issue..i am just an one amp type of a guy... I think i already said that..one amp, one headphone (except for my beyer mmx300's.. Those will go into my grave with me biggrin.gif )

I decided that my new amp will be only one.. When i start something new i most of times burn down my old ships behind me. AND MY WIFE ALWAYS. HATED HOW HE LOOKED...using her words.. Oldfashioned..she worked as a fashion designer remember? .when she saw the classy simple looks of blue circle amps (showed her some pics..NOT PRICES hehehe)..she loved it..so she was happy i sold my evil one..and didnt really like me having it back again even for a while...
So having my 337 on the side is not a valid option here..i only hope the new owner will treat the evil one with the TLC i gave him..as its one special amp..its like an big block v8 chevy..from outside it maybe looks simple, oldfashioned, cheap and raw..but what it pumps out...heavenly music!! biggrin.gif

Apparently the AKG K712 pro is on par with the Hifiman HE-500

I dont knowif thats true as i never heard a k712 yet..but if i remember it right the k701 was a formable headphone back in the day!! I had one for a month or so with my modded mstage that i had back in the days...sounded very good! Very airy!!!
And so..if the 712 pro is an improved version..it could be good..but then again...am waiting what hifiman will throw ito the fight next year.... As i cant imagine them waiting much longer as most competitors came out with new better models...we will see

Yeah, no thanks. That guy is notorious for making outlandish inferences from headroom's graphs.

hfmr, that guy made me laugh my ass off just now reading his post.  But yeah, I've tried k712.  For what's they are selling it for, I returned it and still keep my Q701.  With the bass port mod on the Q701, I believe the Q701 now sounds better (if my memory serves me right).  On the K712, I still had to +2 bass on my EQ vs. +3 or +4 for Q701.

After the recent mod, my Q701 no longer need + bass on the EQ.  and no, IMO, k712 is not better than HE500.  A tad warmer than Q701 = better in some ppl's book but for me, the basic sound foundation is still the same.

What genres are the 500 strongest in? Does anyone prefer them for classical?

The he500 is one of those rare phones who doesnt have flaws playing any music genres..he plays them all pretty well... With the right amp ofcourse!

Classical is lovely with velour pads / J$ beyer pads / jergpads. Vocals / rock I prefer more with pleathers / jergpads (the lower mids just sound too thin for my tastes with velour pads especially, and J$s are kinda in-between).

Thanks. I've been considering the T90 for classical. Wonder how they would compare to the 500 avec les pads de jerg :)
