HiFiman HE-500 (HE as in High End) Proving to be an enjoyable experience in listening. . - Page 53

it's not the stock HE-6 cable which is a Single Crystal Pure Copper cable. it seems that the new HE-500 stock cable should be a Silver plated Copper cable, which in some cases might work better than pure silver.

Judging from the colour of the wire alone, it seems to me not to be silver plated. See for yourself:

Looks like copper but Fang will answer it. How do they sound with the leather pads.

I too bought my HE-500 like a day before this news leaked out. So I am kind of disappointed as I would have loved to have that cable instead of the cable that they used to come with...

I have received the new cable, and my HE-500 have been shipped on 10th of November! You should have he new cable also! If I were you I'd contact the shop. Where did you bought it?

I cannot comment on sound (I used 'leather' only because I find them much more comfortable, although they are significantly more shallow (not thick enough) and my ears(which are normal in size) are touching the headphone's grid. But I find the grip less, and so it is more comfy for me.

A question which will result in very subjective answers:

Which is the soundwise least fatiguing of the LCD2 and HE500??

I've had the T1 and HD800 but they both fatigued me. The HD800 was way too bright, the T1 was better, but I still couldn't keep it. Really loved the sound of the T1, though. HD650 and Fostex T50RP is ok.

HE-500 is less fatiguing, not that LCD-2 is fatiguing.

Why? What makes the LCD-2 more fatiguing?

I answered you the exact opposite in another thread. Soundwise I find the He-500 more fatuiging :D

I would definitely email Fang.  There is a 30 day return policy so I don't see why he wouldn't honor a price adjustment or send you the cable.  Otherwise, you could return and reorder them and still be ~160 dollars ahead and have the new cable.

Been trying to figure that out myself. Although my ears tell me the HE-500 is less fatiguing; I can pretty much listen forever without tiring, while the LCD-2, I need a break after an hour or two. To me the HE-500 feels smoother/gentler when hitting the notes. It's not about what has more treble/bass, but the way the soundwaves hit my ears. I wish I could explain in a much more precise/techical manner, but I really can't. They're both quite different and equally enjoyable. I would really highly recommend the HE-500, especially for the price it's being offered at.

haha. LOL. I guess we're all different.  atsmile.gif I did notice that using velour pads made it even less fatiguing, although I prefer the leather sound signature...

Thanks :)

@M-13, the HE-500 is brighter than LCD-2, but you find it less fatiguing?.

Have you heard the T1 - how would you compare? I loved the T1 for its detail and 3D, but it tired my ears. The FR graph f the HE500 and the T1 looks pretty similar, which makes me anxious about getting them....

@Ultrainferno, can you be more specific?

Ayone else please join in :)

I know HE-500 is supposed to be brighter than the LCD-2, but for me they're about the same, very close. I have LCD-2 R2. I find the HE-500's brightness just right, not too bright or dark, while the LCD-2 R.2 is ever slightly dark (for my tastes), which I like sometimes, but like I said they're close.

I have never heard the T1, so can't help you there, sorry. But one thing I can say is that both LCD2/HE500 are much less fatiguing than my three mid-fi cans (HD650, D2000, Q701). I find the HD650 least fatiguing of the three, so you know what my tastes are...
