I literally cannot feel any pressure on my head now whilst wearing HE500, even if I try. The only pressure I feel is just the slight clamp of the earpads, and the slight weight of the headphones on my neck/shoulders.

Interesting impressions with both the comfy strap and the padded headband together...comfort is phenomenal with just the strap itself, so this must feel really nice!  I need to remake mine with slightly thicker/wider leather, but I couldn't be more pleased with this design!

Yeah I agree that slightly thicker (less collapsible) leather will work even better, ditto with the width, especially around the center region. I always imagine a long olive-shaped cut to be the most optimal for a headband leather strap.

Agreed, kinda like the Stax headbands...I may try to mimic that a little more closely.  Mine are pretty close to GREQs, maybe just a 1/2 inch more narrow, so it's not too far off, but widening the area that rests on the top of my head will better distribute the weight than it does now, and further improve comfort biggrin.gif

It took a little 'Massaging' and yes patience to get all the clips done up.  But mine has not come loose since I put it on (3 or 4 months?).

Slightly is the keyword here.

I too from time to time listen to music while lying down, and it really doesn't impact anything having the back sides obstructed.

Exactly what I was aiming for when I was looking at the Audeze vegans. All the more reason to apply that mod.

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

So are these leather headbands in production by Greq or Modulor? Just bought the headband clipons from eBay.

Seems like you don't have much room for adjusting the height of the drivers with the headband and the clip on applied at the same time:

AFAIK GREQ is no longer making them, but if there is some interest in it I could contact him and see if it's OK if I make a few for people...so this is tentative and just speculation at the moment.  Also, I need to revise my own that I made and make sure that I can do it cleanly and all, and take proper measurements of course.  The section you circled should be fine, there appears to be enough room for the adjuster to move freely - the comfy strap however does limit the adjustment distance a bit, but it can addressed by making a longer/shorter strap if necessary.

Always looking to get more out of the HE-500. So let me be the first to register my interest for a leather headband.

question for jerg (or anyone else with explanantion) about the jerg pads made by modulor

since i am listening with my modded pads i end up having a light headache after 4 hours or so of listening (i can do that as i only sleep 4 hours a day)...could that be because of the extreme hard hitting bass i am experiencing? as the bass punches so hard now u can almost feel it! am not kidding! the bass hits even harder now then (what i can remember) a lcd 2.1 did!

is it possible my ears and mind need to get customed to this sound? i can remember i sometimes had same light headaches when visiting a live concert and staying close to the loudspeakers after a while in the past...

could it be that the bass is hitting to hard for my very VERY sensitive ears and they need to adjust to the new sound? any experience with this?

tomorrow i will be trying to listen to a lower volume then i normally do.(i already have the amp on 'source direct mode', so the most direct sound possible and also in 2channel mode/dual mono, bypassing everything).. maybe its because of the jerg pads mod the full power of the powerfull onkyo amp (i temperarely use now) hits much stronger?

i didnt have this when i was using the hugely less powerfull sounding velours pads with this amp! or with my 337 (and the latter i could turn on the volume really high without headaches!)

but i love the sound soooo much...its so much more natural sounding!!

thanks for replying jerg or anyone else with same experience or explanation. thanks!

While I've not experienced this yet with my HE-500 (plus I've been switching back and fourth to velours for testing, but I'm on jergpads indefinitely now), however I do recall this happening to me when I had the HE-400 after 3+ hour sessions.  It may surprise some, but the bass can be just as fatiguing as the treble on those for some, and it could also depend on listening levels.  I'd say it is indeed likely to be related to the elevated bass, probably a combination of both the jergpads and that you're using the more powerful amp now.  I don't think the jergpads are a very dramatic change, so it may be something you get used to after a week or so.  That change though...mmmm biggrin.gif

Turn the volume down. Lol.

i noticed that i have more bass, but it also made me put the volume higher to be at about the same volume it was with the pleathers.

I really need to try some jergpads in the next couple months. I have no patience or affinity for crafts so I'll likely buy a pair some day.
