I'm trying to focus more on getting a decent speaker setup first before I look into other headphones.
That's easy. Schiit Ragnarok + Mini Maggies = biggrin.gif

I use the velour pads...didn't like the fat bottom end of the pleathers....I found removing the dust screens from the pads and the grills improves the top end. Very pleased with the result.....its not subtle.

Cheers!

As i said..it could be that myamp now can push more watts into the he500 and so improve the sound.. But if u believe that its because its louder and therefor we think that the sound changes...that could be true also..soits upthe the beholder to believe what the reason can be..point is..my headphone gotmuch better now... As if it has more power to play with... To my ears anyway..but i am no technician...but still..the wider soundstage..that cant be because of the louder volume..right??? I can only imagine my ampnow working in its sweet spot of power delivery to the he500 and so give inproved input quality to the he500.

Last nighti had a 6hours! Listening session.... I just couldnt stop listening to music..it was that good!!! And soon the jergmodded pads.. Cant imagine the sound improve much now..as its already so good.....all is in balance..i didnt think my rig could sound better..but now it does..with a simple cheap mod.... Damn..my new amp will have a hard time bettering the sound i have now..am almost getting doubts that i ordered that expensive amp now..

P..tonighti will be trying my he500 out with my high quality onkyo speaker amp...it has lots of power..am just curious whats that power (watts) talk is all about.... I still believe u dont need a multi 10watts amp to drive the he500 perfectly..a good strong (1watts +) headphone amp can be just as good..altough, i agree, for a higher price... So just for science sake i will connect my he500 to the onkyo...and then back to my humble rig. biggrin.gif

Don't want to try to explain anything tongue_smile.gif

But I think the mind is very unreliable. On the other hand; whatever makes one happy...

my first post on this thread so if some of things are repetitive, my apologies. I recently purchased the Gungnir/Mjolnir primarily to drive the LCD 3 but I plugged the HE 500 in today in a "what the heck" attitude and four non-stop hours later, my jaw is still on the floor. I had always characterized the 500 as a "mellow" HP compared to the HE 400 and definitely the Audeze HPs. Maybe its the amp (I don't know) but everything about a song has, to my ears, has improved significantly - detail, separation, soundstage, bass depth and extension. From Fleetwood Mac, Elton John to the heavies - Purple, Floyd, Zeppelin, the clarity is awesome. The 500 presents "easy listening" in a relaxed manner while harder-edged rock is presented in the appropriate energetic fashion.

The only negative for me is the feel of the velours around my ears but heck its not that bad. I can't wait the jergpad mod by modulor to take it to the next level. Man, did I underestimate these HPs. The thread is very aptly named.

Glad to hear about the HE-500 working well with the Mjolnir as well. BTW How are you liking the LCD-3's with the Schiit. How's the bass? Do you find it agressive, laid back or somewhere in there?

Be careful, you might not go back once you have a taste of speaker tapping biggrin.gif  I have decided that my Emotiva is not going anywhere.  My friend is drilling a hole for me on the front panel so I can mount the SE headphone plug.  Barely enough space!  Will post a pic when done, hopefully tmr.

i will!! i will use protection tongue_smile.gif

oftopic update...some guys of u asked me what brand my new amp will be..and when i told them they all said: 'never heard of it'...and..'isnt it very risky to buy an amp u never ever heard or from a brand thats soo unknown?'  and..its canadian made!! aaarrrghhh (okay last thing was a joke..sorry my canadian friends) ksc75smile.gif and they are all right....well...sort of...biggrin.gif..am i crazy? do i have to much money to spend? noooooooo!!! eek.gif i wish i had!!! still need to win in the lottery or have a rich spouse or a granddad who has shares in an oil company...or an far uncle who is in the maffia owning trillion dollars... oops  biggrin.gif nothing of that..i work 40-60 hours a week to earn my money...like u all do... i think! rolleyes.gif

just to prove i am sane..well sort of..i include a thread that i not so long ago read with lots of interest..and which made me decide to do it (well i asked skylark for his experience also and some others in the know!) beerchug.gif and all the reviews i couldfind about the products of the brand.

so.check this thread i am inserting now..(IF UR INTERESTED OFCOURSE..U DONT NEED TO READ IT IF UR NOT)...and check some interesting names on that thread..the amp they are talking about is in same league of mine (maybe a bit above as its also operated by batteries)..only mine will not have batteries and will have a dac in same enclosure and powerunit outside the case...as mine is based on the NSL...for pics u can check their site (check tab: custommade projects)! somehow the pics dont work on the thread anymore!

see this as free info about a brand almost no one knows about except for the people and i quote 'who are at their high-end endgame concerning their amps'

once again..its not my amp...it will be totally different..but just to give u an idea WHY i decided to pay up 1800usd up front (rest later when its ready) to get the project started and wait 6 months to get it ready...have fun reading...

its almost as if u are reading an emotiva apreciation thead..biggrin.gif.so much halleluya u hear in that thread about the brand..u even hear someone say 'great value for money'...yeah right!.lolz " id="yui_3_10_0_1_1374452419175_1124" rel="http://files.head-fi.org/images/smilies/wink.gif">wink.gif

completely offtopic!!! i beeeeep hate musqitos!! those thugs suck me dry..i think i now killed at least 25 of them in my 27 degrees celsius hot room in the last hour or so and its 2:52 am here!...its a killing zone here on the floor...i slash them out of the air with my electric powered (modified by a friend) tennis racket in one swift move as if i were a deadly ninja! u can smell the burning of their flesh on the metal of the electrified metal!...oh god..i now sound like the reaper of the musquitos... very_evil_smiley.gif

Thanks. With the LCD-3, while the bass is very well delivered, it seems to me that it is less aggressive now. This is the thing that prompted my earlier post on the 500. I have to do another intensive round of listening (poor me biggrin.gif) but I found the everything about the bass in the 500 to be a tad more aggressive than the LCD-3. I am sure a lot of Head-fiers are scratching their heads on reading this (me included). The LCD-3s, IMHO, became a tad brighter overall but definitely not laid back.

Cool. About the HE-500's bass kicking harder than LCD-3, makes perfect sense to me. On all the speaker taps I tried, when HE-500 is driven properly, it almost gets the control of the Audeze's, but kicks harder, the natural bloom you might say.

Can't wait til I can pull the trigger on my new DAC....almost there.  The internal sound card just isn't cutting it as one would expect (I was spoiled by a Bel Canto not long ago haha...)

modulor, which DAC are you looking into?  I am thinking about moving E17/E9K to the office and get a good DAC at home to feed the Emo.

At least, for a while and also I want to experience what a better DAC can do over all.  So far, I've tried upgrading HPs, amps already.
