Now, back to HE-500 glorification!

Okie Okie, do you think the WA7 will be enough to glorify my HE500 at work?

thats a sexy piece of equipment..when i was looking for an all in one solution for a dac and amp for my he500 i also checked this little beauty out...but i decided to go exotic as i received money from a friend of mine to who i borrowed the amount a long time ago..so i had a 4 times bigger budget then anticipated (without my wife knowing)....biggrin.gif but nevertheless...the wa7 is well worth its money!!! and its probably one of the most sexy looking amps i ever saw..AND affordable for 999usd (without the special tubes they offer additionally)...as its a dac and amp in one...

edit..i just read it only pumps out 1w at 32ohm (1 watt at 50ohm is the absolute minimum hifiman officially states for the he500 if i am not mistaken)...hope it will give enough current for the more dynamic music (like orchestra's and the like) to the he500. i guess u have to check one out then to find out wink.gif

i suppose for the he6 it wont be enough...so if ur planning to upgrade to he6 next year or so...choose other amp. IMHO ofcourse wink.gif

Yeah, I'm thinking the WA7 may be more suitable for the likes of the HE-400, but I suspect it will drive the HE-500 decently.  They are going to have them for demo at the Capital Audio Fest in a few weeks, so I plan on trying my HE-500 out on them as well as other Woo Audio stuff.  I love the acrylic top, that's a pretty fantastic idea design-wise.

Hmmm, I played around with watercooling earlier in the year (I have a Raystorm rig) and I don't think its really worth it for all the hassles etc. I also recently swapped out a couple of harddisk and in the process the waterpump molex connector came loose. I didn't notice this as the cable was hidden behind a shroud to make the case look neat and tidy. Took me some time to figure out why the PC didn't want to play nice anymore. I am fortunate that my PC didn't die. Not to mention that today's ATX cases are all large and clunky. So I've converted my PC back into a mini-ITX chassis and now it plays nice and quiet.

Still enjoying the Emotiva mini-x amp and it has great clarity with low volumes too which is a bonus. I do miss the warmth and smoothness of the PS2 amp though, though it doesn't have as much slam and dynamics. Think it is time to build a cable for HE-500 with XLR adapters so I can alternate between the two amps. Then I can listen to the Emotiva while drinking a beer and the Sunrise 2 while sipping a whisky! I love excellent budget gear, allows you to have something of everything. The stakes are much higher with expensive gear!

A little OT, but is it possible for me to disable my video card and shut it down without doing so in BIOS. Like can I switch between onboard and my gtx570, cuz it is very noisy? Actually it is the only noisy component in my computer...

I don't know of any way to do this. You can switch to your onboard graphics but I don't think you can completely power down your graphics card without entering the BIOS. You can usually get software to manually control the fan on your graphics card though. I do this when listening to music so it doesn't interfere with my open headphones. At 25% it's just about silent. I also use one of those self-contained water coolers for my CPU for the added performance and reduced noise.

Can't power my gfx fan lower than 40%, which is still way way too loud. I got the stock cooler, it is rubbish.

Should just be able to backup the "foobar2000" folder in your AppData folder and then overwrite the new one with your backup after you update.

Got any news to discuss, then I'm up for it.

No news here.. But perhaps it's time for a wishlist? What do we want from the next revision of the HE-500 - or the model that comes after? I'm thinking angled connectors, like the latest Audeze, and perhaps a little bit lower weight, if at all possible. The sound, though, is perfect as it is!

angled connectors, angled drivers, a bit thicker comfyer headband, less dust-attracting pads, and a bit more sturdy design? did i sum up what we all want guys or did i forget something?biggrin.gif

about the weight..well..most of weight comes from the drivers if i am not mistaken...so if u want lighter phone they have to use other drivers...and we dont want that..right? wink.gif

and going back to the question about what happened to this thread: well...i actually am liking it now...its not anymore about kicking each others asses about what we like... it now got a bit wider in interest..only the pc thingie got a bit offtopic biggrin.gif

maybe we can start a list of amps that we USE with our he500? and list our PERSONAL good and bad EXPERIENCES about that amp when used with the he500?AND BE HONEST!!! tongue.gif

as this could help newbies to choose the right amp for there budget...what u think guys?
