But speculate its no good from the start up...only one person i know of here on the he500 thread, except for me..has a 339..sold it and he now owns a decware i understand.... And am not trying to sell the 337 or 339... Thats why i also mention other brands...but with the 337 i have proof (to my ears) the 337 with the right (expensive tubes) can drive the he500 to a very high standard in soundquality..

.

I own one, as a matter of fact I own the upgraded (power supply)version of what you have the SE. I still stand by what I've said on numerous occasions, upgrade the tubes in the Lyr and dynamically and power wise it is superior to my 337 with my He-500s (I do like the DV with the 650s, only reason I keep it around)

Eventually your posts are just going to be the numbers 337 337 337 over and over again with a Toxic cable thrown in here and theredeadhorse.gif

Yeah i know u are one of the few who have one..ur family.. wink.gif but with the standard tubes in it...we already had this conversation before in which i told u its not a fair fight to compare a pimped up lyr with expensive tubes and compare it to a 337 with the rubbish chinese tubes ( and they are rubbish!!) in it...but as i said..i actually tried the lyr out with good amperex tubes in it..and only thing i loved more on the lyr compared to my (pimped up) 337 was the deeper more impactful bass it gave (u can call that dynamic)..i loved that...but as i said numerous times also..the lyr sounded more muffled then my 337 (with the top tubes i have in it)... But i agree with u on one thing..the 337 is magical with the hd650.

And me talking bout 337,337, 337.... Ofcourse i do..i love my rig!! Just as all the talkative emotiva, lyr, he400 and o2 owners around, among some! Why should we shut up just because others dont like it? Others just have to respect that to our ears our rigs sounds excellent..but in ur case..i say again..invest ( or try out) in some good tubes (i advice gec or tungsol 5998 for power and tung sol sj7gt mesh plates for drivers) and the do the test ( if i was more closer to u u could have tried my tubes out)..that would be more honest comparision..but again..in the end its all personal..my 337 doesnt really sound like ur particular tube amp (partly because of the 5998 and gt tubes)....and some people prefer the tube sound..as the lyr, although very powerful..does have that special tube sound signature...

So... Did u mention toxic also?.well...nooooooo i wont go into that again also.. But i love my new balanced cable.... biggrin.gif

Did i mention already i love my darkvoice 337 with my toxic cable? Oopsie....i did it again...hehehe biggrin.gif

I am using the 5998  mesh-shield Tung-Sol's and JAN-Phillips 6SJ7WGT, so fair comparison I would say.  I admire your passion though.

Like I said nothing that I own(tube) sounds better on the 650s, but don't knock the Lyr with the right tube on the He-500s it is very good and far from "muddy" and the  if the Emotiva (have not tried) sounds as good as the speaker taps from my vintage receivers, do not knock it as well at 1/2 the price of the 337.

Hi, complete noob here. Can someone please tell me if the 337 is any good with HE-500!!!???? Also, how will the O2 work with HE-500. Thanks, guys.bigsmile_face.gif

5998 Tung-Sols? I bet you paid a pretty penny for those. I had a terrible time tracking them down when I had my little dot MKVI+. Heard nothing but raving reviews on those.

Ur right..thats a fair comparision then..then i guess we like different sound signatues wink.gif and thats okay... Everyone like different things.

We all are passionate about the things we love.. wink.gif and i see. Ur just as passionate as me wink.gif

About the emotiva..yeah i am curious now as well...it soundslike this one is a very special amp..i am going to try one in oktober...and my 337 will be on sale then..because as u know i am going to receive my endgame amp in november then... And next year a he6 or he7(if it comes out)..and then the he500 will be used in my study where i work with maybe an emotiva.. Who knows tongue.gif

I like the pair..but pls visit the darkvoice 339 thread..it would anwer ur question completely..u dont need to believe me on my word..or was it to my ears biggrin.gif

Tip...use tubes with higher gain..like the 5998...and buy a latter model those are better tuned for othos (from2010 models)..first models not so..if i am not mistaken there have been 5 different revisions of the 337.. About the 339 i am not sure...

On another note..its a pity u cant visit the london meet...as then u would be able to try my rig out..so u could find out urself why i love my particular rig so much..

Hi fearless: i just thought about a thing..i use the excellent hm602 ( as again the only person here on headfi biggrin.gif ) as standalone source (connected by line-out output by a topquality rca cable)for my 337... It has a very high gain..so sound is powerfull..and with upgraded high quality powercables on my 337..maybe thats because i love my combo with the he500?

But I will try my amp with the hm602 as dac only and then connect it by usb to my laptop..maybe the sound will be worse then on my he500....and use the standard skinny power cables
Will keep u updated biggrin.gif

About the o2...never heard it yet..some say it doesnt have enough power to drive it well..others say it sounds good with the he500...better check the o2 thread also.

I have the O2 and the Emotiva with the HE500.  However, I've only had the Emotiva for about a week.  So far the difference isn't huge, but there is a difference.  I'd say the low end is definitely more prominent on the Emotiva.  I can hear a noise floor with it, whereas the O2 is dead silent.  However, it's not really noticeable unless no music is playing.

Thanks for sharing.

It puts most of the emotiva hype into better perspective. Especially as a European it doesn't make sense for me to import American amps and suffer the heavy import taxes.

Perhaps it's just for myself that I don't feel as though I'm 'missing out', but I don't feel that I need moar bass from my HE-500 so at the very least I can now listen to my music in peace.
