HiFiman HE-500 (HE as in High End) Proving to be an enjoyable experience in listening. . - Page 219

The stock silver sounds pretty good to me, and I can live with the -admittedly annoying- tangling and occasional microphony, and imo the cable's light weight and small footprint when tangled in a corner (didn't think that would be convenient) are nice; but it does seem extremely fragile on the connector end where the small silvers strands poke straight down on my shoulders from the black strain relief plastic. I can already see that this is where the cable is being strained a lot and will eventually break, which just seems silly on $700 headphones...

So, I added some black shrink wrap  (with hot glue on the inner lining) around the connector and the last cm of cable to protect it a bit more and give it a small angle so that it wouldn't drop straight down and rub on everything; more strain relief basically. That should make the cable a bit more sturdy, as I can't see where else it would just break if used normally.

The HE-500 movie trailer just made my day too, thanks ;)

$90 off ebay for a used cable with HE connectors. Bought it from an individual and I felt like I got a great deal. The Norn cable is much more flexible than the Black Dragon it replaced.

I haven't dealt with Norse directly, but everyone says the owner is very trustworthy and accommodating.

YMMV.

I enjoy Amperex 6DJ8 Orange Globes (1966-68 halo getter) and Mullard CV2493's.

Please be aware that tube rolling can quickly become a very expensive hobby. eek.gif

I would imagine a sequel as well:

Return to Head-fi: Showdown Between The Top End Orthos :D

A very similar plot twist, but with HE-6 and LC-3 as the main protagonist and antagonist :D

But that script was ingenious :D

I thought so, at least...but I'm using the E9K at the moment...waiting for the Asgard and Modi to arrive! The E9K doesn't drive the 500's well at all...
