Definitly much better than the Dacport

Dacport > HE-500 VS Dacmini > HE-500

Treble : There is some graininess on the Dacport, but very smooth, very liquid, and better decay on the Dacmini. The Dacmini is about striving for clarity and precision

Mids : Both Dacport and Dacmini have a liquid mids, but there is a gap in detail level that Dacmini crushes the Dacport. As i mentioned earlier, the Dacmini is about striving for clarity and precision, so the Dacmini can pick up more micro detail, also vocals are a bit forward on the Dacmini that gives more intimate feeling especially on women vocals.

Bass : Definitly the Dacmini improves the bass quality, the bass is more punchy, it's extend lower, it's faster (Better PRaT on Dacmini) compare to the Dacport

That's my opinion on my 5 hours old Dacmini

Sorry for my bad english hifimanrookie

My link provides both Tyll's and NwAvGuy's measurements, with Tyll comparing his results to NwAvGuy's.. Anyways, which measurement might be correct?

All I can say is the second set comes from nailing down a 'method' and that the other amps were used in the same manner.  So if we're going to compare one amp to another based on measurements... has to be the second set.

Brilliant first post playitload. Nicely elaborated.

The information sounds convincing for me. It seems that 0.5 W is a good power output to drive the HE-500 and that the quality of the amp (includes the power supply) is important.

This also agrees with quite a few people running 400 mW setups, which are reported to sound good (O2, SPL Auditor).

Which numbers in the PDF are you looking at? I don't see power measurements in that PDF for the O2 other than 600mw at 32ohms.. Also it says 4.6v @32ohms for 1% THD which corresponds to 661mw at 32ohms. So everything seems to agree with the original design..

Zeinharis, the DACmini has a very good synergy with HE500. It's definitely an improvement than your LX

Zeinharis is talking about the dacport..not the LX ...rite?
the LX sounds cleaner than the dacport.

Actually, i have the original Dacport, Dacport LX, and now the Dacmini, i'm using the original Dacport when doing the comparison. I'm selling the Dacport LX, and lend the original Dacport to my friend, while now i'm a happy camper with the Dacmini redface.gif

Don't look at the bottom box, it's copy pasted to all the amps... ie a place holder.  Look at the graphs.

Alright gents, considering pulling the trigger on the HE-500, maybe HE-6 though fans of HiFiMAN tend to say the HE-500 is the real gem, and wondered... what are you guys using for cables?  I'll likely just get 'earrings' for my Q cables but thought I'd hit you guys up for some real world experience.

I'm using a custom silver cable (7N) made by Headphone Lounge. It sounds pretty much just like the stock cable, which I also loved. Right now I have a three part adapter cable that I have for HE-500 so I can connect it to a balanced amplifier, single ended amplifer and speaker taps:

1) Connectors from L+R from HE-500 connectors terminating into 4 pin XLR (Neutrik) ----> With this I can connect it to a balanced amplifier directly and also attach #2 or #3

2) Female 4 pin XLR (Neutrik) into 3.5 mm jack

3) Female 4 pin XLR (Neutrik) into banana plugs

The cable that I have is far more flexible and much lighter than the stock cable. This one also seems to be soldered nicely around the connections so the wiring doesn't get loose or the cable snaps. I always hated how the stock cable would twist and just annoy my neck. This one makes it much better. So far so good.

I personally had the option to buy a silver, copper or hybrid but ended up with silver cable for the treble. HE-500 does wonders with the treble. If you feel it's getting at you, then simply switch to the pleathers and give it an hour and once you'll get adjusted it'll still sound awesome but more tamed treble (absolutely no fatigue with this).

Quick question, is the HE-400 canare cable silver or copper? I'm sure there are reviews out there, but what is the general opinion on how it (he-400 cable) pairs with the HE-500?

These will be impressions I can't wait to read, especially if compared to your LCD2's :)

Stock cables on my end. Cumbersome they can be but they do the job.  You're in for a treat Solude.
