I vouch for this observation. The Hifiman copper cable gives a more tamed treble and more midrange bloom, compared to the Hifiman silver, which to my ears make HE500s a bit too analytical and cold.

Well I have the older Silver cable, used with the HE-5/Early baches of HE-6. It is superior to the current silver cable and was supposedly changed due to high manufacturing costs :D I think it is more transparent that the stock copper cable

I tried both the canare copper (from the he300) and silver cable (from new batch of he500) of hifiman..i didnt like both of them..i now use the dhc molecule because thats a much better cable and in two weeks i will get my even better Toxic cables Black Widow 22awg copper cable..i cant wait to hear the latter one! biggrin.gif

The pleather on jazz recording can make the overall tone less natural than it seems with the velour.

Maybe a silly question, but does anyone here use or even know of a wrench small enough to gently tighten the nut on the headphone end of the cable? I know Harbour Freight doesn't because I checked there. I have trouble getting them started sometimes.

So wait, there are four types of Hifiman cables then? Old silver, new silver, OCC copper, and canare copper?

Here is a head-fi pic of the OCC copper cable I have, it came with an older production HE500 package I got. It was posted by plin almost exactly 1 year ago in this thread:

Thats weird..my canare cable was black sleeved! And not naked sleeved..and thicker!and my silvercable was also like ur pic naked sleeved but in silver.. Interesting..Well i dont care to much to be honest..first thing i did with all my hifiman's is keepin the original cable in box and use my dhc cable instead..and soon i will get my toxic cables black widows 22 awg copper cable! I just love the combo he500 with good copper cables better then silvercables imho ofcourse and on my rig! Wait..i did listen to the silvercable after have it burnt in for 48 hours..but it was to bright and to hollow sounding compared to my dhc molecule cable..but yes,the silver gave a bit more detail! and i believe the black widow will be even better the my dhc cable! wink.gif
