For those who have and love their LCD-2 8-wire "chain mail" cables (Norse, ALO, DHC...) with their LCD-2...

DHC has some interesting UPOCC HE-x to LCD-2 cable adapters. In my brief HE-500 + DHC adapters + Norse 8-wire UPOCC LCD-2 cable encounter I was pleasantly surprised how HE-500 fleshed out in the lower frequencies... almost LCD-2 like. Recommended.

...too bad that HE-x connectors do not allow direct 8-wire cabling. The connectors are just too small...

Thanks for the info KingStyles, I find their retro look quite appealing.

Where are there images of the Q cable? I haven't seen any good images of it and size comparison.

I hope this helps. This is pictures of my 3m q-audio cable made for my lcd2 which will be identical to the he500 one except for the connector that attaches it to the headphone. The other cable it my lcd2 stock cable. The q-audio cable is very light and the wire is sheave in cotton. Sorry, I dont own a good camera. I should have the he500 one by the middle of next week.

^^ Thanks for the pics. How do you like the cable compared to stock in regards to SQ?

I will wait untill I am able to compare the cable on the he500. The differences that I hear going from the lcd2 stock to the q-audio cable could be different than how the he500 reacts to it or if the he500 stock cable is better or worse than the lcd2 stock cable. I dont want to lead anybody astray. I was just letting everybody know that he was able to make 1 for the he500 too. I will post my thoughts when I have the cable/cans and when they are burnt in so there is a fair comparison.

Fair comment. Look forward to your findings.

is there anybody who prefer the he500 over the he6? ive seen a few people who claim that if powerful amp requirements are taken out of the equation, the he-6 are much better than the he500 and the higher price is justified. any comments on this?

Not quite following the cable pics WRT to the HE-6

Understand that the headphone connectors will be different but the pic shows 2 XLR's at the other end and stock cable on the HE-6 has one (4 pin)

How the cable is terminated is only relevant in terms of what balanced outputs the amp intended to be paired with, is equipped.  The bigger issue--and that is visible on the pictures--is that the LCD-2 connectors appear to be able to accommodate larger gauge and/or better shielded/dampened/jacketed wires than those of the HifiMAN RF-connectors, which are comparatively very tiny.  Since we are talking about a balanced cable, you do need to accommodate a ground wire per channel, as well as the positive signal and the negative return signal wires all terminated into that tiny little connector.  It's a challenge, to say the least and any serious cable maker would machine their own custom HE-xxx connector to get the job done properly.

An alternative would be to hardwire the headphones by drilling thru the chassis, effectively removing the RF sockets out of the way.  That is a custom job, and permanent.  Still, both of these headphones are worth it, IMHO.  I have my HE-6 rewired that way, but it'll take at least a month to complete so I won't see it anytime soon.

The 6s still outperform the 500 when driven 15-20w @ 50ohms

Wow, now I'm really looking forward to receiving a loaner HE500. biggrin.gif
