HiFiman HE-500 (HE as in High End) Proving to be an enjoyable experience in listening. . - Page 1212

I prefer these HE-500 at half the cost of the Focal Elear when hooked up to my Deckard amp.

IDK but I think these compete up there with top headphones, sound most like speakers, strong in all frequencies and with great imaging and soundstage. They are the real deal in terms of price to performance.

They sound great with all genres. Consider me a fan.

They have sound quality comparable and exceeding top headphones that cost much more.

How would you compare the Elears to these Hifimans?

Thx in advance.

Hifimans are better in just about every way. Noticeably better imaging and soundstage size. The treble is more brilliant and extended out. The Elear treble really lacked in some songs, too rolled off. Elear is too thick sounding and the dynamics of it are overrated. The bass also seems to have more definition on the HE-500 and great extension. It also has satisfying impact when the song calls for it. If you give the velour padded HE-500's good power, they just sing. They have speaker like sound and are among my favorite I have heard regardless of price point. A real diamond in the rough. It's not the newest flashiest high hype product, but the sound quality of them is magnificent.

Im going to be overall in the camp that the Elears are overhyped and are over rated. They sound good, but they have a very similar overall sound signature to the HD650, and the HD650 is a quarter of the price. Ultimately, I just don't think they are worth the 4x expense over the very good HD650, if you want a headphone with a thick, meaty sound with a bassy, mids centered sound and a rolled off top end.

I also found the HD650 to be the more comfortable headphone.

+1

I am slowly upgrading my set of cans that can be seen in my signature and when I come to the HE500s and think of another headphone with the same sound quality/level I don't get anything that could pair these Hifimans. Should I find something similar, I'm open to improvements but it has to be a clear win over them.

I use them with the pleather pads since I priorize a good bass slam and I recognize they're not the most comfortable thing on the earth, but man their sound run with a balanced cable to my NOS11 is really amazing.

Cheers.

You should really try them with the Brainwavz velour - I posted measurements in a previous post.
