My gf gets a bit jealous when I give the HE500 too much time...

Her bottom end is fantastic, detailed and tight. Her upper body is balanced, natural and seductive. And last is the top, which is beautiful, glowing and always makes me smile.

Not to mention the sound is pretty decent too.

Mmmm ... reminds me of someone . . . .

Dude that "Human Equation" album is simply amazing. I mean almost all of their albums are amazing. I was listening to that particular album with my HE-500 last night. LaBrie sounded sooo good :)

When the bride comes home this evening, I am going to use these words, paraphrased a tad, of course!  I think I will be in for a very special night!

I totally agree. "The Human Equation" is my favorite album of all times. It is the album I check new gear with. If I can hear all the little details (or even hear some new ones) and if I "forget" that I am listening, then the gear is good. HE-500 delivers this, hands down.

Got my HE-500s yesterday and couldn't be more happy. I like them way better than my LCD-2s. The 500s are being driven by the Schiit Lyr, I also prefer the velour pads over the leather/pleather..I think the pads make a significant difference is SQ.
This is of course my own opinion.

I second your thoughts about the synergy between the HE-500 and the Lyr .  The HEs sound deep and lush.

My trusted and very "broken-in" Senn HD 800's are the only other cans to surpass it in detail and image placement.

However, the HE's are so warm and velvety in the mid-range that it makes them hard to resist.

I was interested in the LCD2, supposedly their bass is really good. Do LCDs have anything better than 500s?

I have a sealed brand new, latest edition velour pads. I haven't tried velour with HE-500 but if you like we could trade the pads? I really like the leather ones.

To my ears, only the bass and absolutely nothing else.

Thanks Yuceka! I don't think I will be parting from 1k to get the LCDs. The bass on HE-500 is already amazing.

I've had my HE-500s for about a month now. Absolutely love them. Love them, love them, love them.

I became a new owner of the HE-500's earlier this week. They will first spend some time on my head, pleasuring my ears and senses with such wonders as:

Stendeck - Scintilla,

Aes Dana,

Whitney Houston,

Guns N' Roses,

Roberta Flack,

<any jazz suggestions?>,

Supertramp - Crime of the Century,

Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon,

Depeche Mode - Ultra,

2Pac,

Michael Jackson,

Paul M. - Band on a Run,

The Cars - S/T,

Kalmah,

Strauss Waltzes - Reiner,

...amongst others ...and see where to go from there.

ps. I'm running mine 'old school', with Leather pads (Velvet itches my ears).

How about you? "Leather" or Velvet pads?

Velvet pads of course. I have 3 extra pair just in case, I really don't like the leather

Lcd-2 vs He-500: both are great but I prefer the HE-500 overall. The LCD-2 does have better bass, rumble and is better for rock/guitars (imo)

Just recently had a chance to audition the LCD2 again a few days ago.  I can't say I was impressed.  I would probably like it a little more if I tried it on my system with more familiar music though.  The equipment was a music hall DAC, like the 300 dollar one, and bellari hybrid amplifier.  Either way I still probably would have preferred the he-500 with my old setup, little dot amplifier and schiit bifrost (my current setup is not a fair match and blows away the bellari musichall combo).  I did not like the man running the audio store.  He was smart enough but he was also very uptight and stubborn, especially when it came to headphones which he was clearly uninformed.  I found it to be an overall not very great experience.  Wish I could bring the LCD2 home and try it in my setup though.

I have read some threads here detailing the events of our members having several high end cans sent for audition before purchase. Don't know who they used though. I think the gist of it was that he gave them a credit card number and let them bill like a percentage of whatever he had consigned to him. He had the LCD, HE, HD, T-1, etc.
