I'll pair the Emotiva a-100 with Schitt Modi for the HE-500. Any inputs ?

plenty or power and the modi is decent.........

I would investigate noise floor.

I must say I think I am starting to be a believer in break in, Although I only have about 50 or 60 hours on the HE-500 I feel like they are better than they were fresh out of the box

(I was happy straight out of the box), I am getting happier by the day, mid range Is surreal, I am not good with terminology but these sound so damn good I really think about buying a 2nd pair just incase

sold the hd-650 as they just sounded dry in comparison, when I switched back to compare

How much better can these get going out to the recommended 150 hours burn in ??

I know it says 150 hours in the instructions. But I kept track for both my 500 and 6. To my ears, the process for both was essentially complete after about 50 hours. Any later changes would have been too subtle forme to reliably notice. I did purchase the 500 used (opened box) but the first owner had owned them 2 days before deciding he couldn't live with the weight and shipping them back to the store. Or so the store said, at least.

if the store says its 2 days its probably at least 2 months biggrin.gif
I bought my he500 with 1 year use (abuse?) and it looked like new, they put two new pairs of pads with it and i couldnt see if they were new or not.
So when a shop mentions a period i only believe it when i see the ORIGINAL invoice and shipping manifest..not even copies..as i know how easy it is to manipulate (pdf) copies of documents redface.gif

Frank, my favorite cablemaker, is actually also an official dealer for hifiman brand (and Audio GD) for the UK and he told me same thing: around 150 hrs burn in time...but i can imagine the last hrs of i,provement being hard to be heard...

and i agree with u..most hearable improvements are in the first 50-100 hrs or so

thats good to know from actual users  thanks,,  I will be very happy with them if they stop improving right now

you mention audio gd, I just agreed to buy the 11:32 dac / amp as an experiment.  I have been wanting to try a SS amp with the 500 and I have also seen thaat some prefer the saber dac to my bifrost so that will be another interesting listening adventure

compare dacs thru my se84, and see if the SS adds anything to the mix

good times are on the way

Audio gd makes some good stuff for not so much money. I dont know where ur residing but toxic cables has a sell out as they have to make space for new products..so if ur lucky u could make a good deal with them..just pm frank (the owner) on their thread and maybe u can make a good deal? His audio GD products are recabled internally with his own quality cables..
So give it a try..it will save u money!

The he500 is good enough to deserve a good amp and dac and lossless material. It gets better with better components.
Good luck with ur search and ur experiment biggrin.gif

I already have the 11:32 on the way, thanks for the heads up though

No doubt the 500 are good, and system wise I feel I am very good now, single end pentode running in class a with 3 wpc, and the schiit Uber Bifrost...........I absolutely love what I hear and frankly doubt I will hear an improvement from the amp. From what I read the dac should offer more detail at the expense of a little bottom end. Now granted that's all just others opinions I will have to see for myself

Just received a pair of HE-500s. I bought them on impulse after spotting a great deal. So happy I did. They give my LCD-2s a run for their money at half the price. A lovely silky neutral sound right out of the (very fancy) box. They seem to be a perfect match for my Burson Soloist SL and are a bit more comfy than the Audeze on account of being lighter.

I am very happily enjoying Cake Prolonging the Magic  with my newish HE-500's (about 50 or 60 hours on them)

Do you believe the extra 400--500 for the LCD2 worth the $$ soundwise ??

I have not heard LCD2 but after listening to the 500 for a couple weeks now I find it hard to imagine the LCD2 being 400 better in sound, I would be more inclined to think it is a lateral move for the most part except for the bass (every thread I read states the LCD2 has better / deeper bass)

I have read a couple statements where users think the LCD2 has better detail although I'm not sure how as they also call it a warmer can.

LCD2 was on my radar but the price difference forced me to try the 500, I am sure glad I did
