But now i have to... Regarding the m-stage..i had rev 1 once..and i used it to burn-in my he500 that i just had bought to save the tubes on the 337 i also just bought 2 years ago.

And it did it very good..surprising well...but u have to play with the 2 gain sliders under the little one...if i am not mistaken it sounded well with gain on 10db (second click)... Okay..it was not earth shaking good..the 337 was a hugely improvement (or else i would never buy it!!!!).. But the little one did good for the price..never ever it clipped!! Bass was not the best..but for the rest it was acceptable...and i didnt expected that..but once again,,i had a rev.1, without the dac or usb input. And I understand those sounded a bit different then the newer reversions. But to me..if ur on a small budget and have lack in space to put the amp away..get a mstage! wink.gif

Yeah I have the HPA-2 with 15dB fixed gain. The 560 is slightly more efficient than the 500 at least wink.gif
I'll be rolling in the LME49710HAX2 soon. For now have the LM4562.
I'll let my ears decide ;D

IMO, Schiit Bifrost and Schiit Lyr.

That combo is definitely one of the better choices for the HE500.  :beerchug:

I have the following setups:  Bifrost/Lyr , Burson Conductor, Dragonfly/LD MKIV SE.

To be honest, most cans sound best on the Burson Conductor ...... except the HE-500.  They really shine on the Bifrost/Lyr

Agreed, I use the Lyr/DAC2 exclusively with the HE-500, it has good synergy with them(especially if you find the "perfect" to your ear tube combo), everything else is my recapped SX950 or another amp.

It's possible that the E09K can't keep delivering to the HE-500's on peaks or higher power levels. Schiit is very good on delivering their specs. The FiiO has no IM specs, Schiit does.

The Mstage for example works well with the HE-500 and it only does 400mw @60ohms (32 ohms unknown).
That and it also depends on the quality of said power.

Since I prefer the sound of SS, I've been using my HE-500 with the Bifrost Uber and Asgard 2. The A2 has a solid 1W, it is very loud, no distortion or clipping with more than enough headroom. The SQ is fisrt rate.

I don't suppose anyone here has heard the HE500s balanced thru the Woo WA22?

Man, I'm itching to go balanced...

planning on getting the A2 or Lyr for the HE500. currently using a magni which i find is decent. it doesnt clip the he500's and it has enough volume. tried the e09k before (since i have the e17) with the he500 and it just wasnt lively enough as it puts out maybe around 600 mw for at 35 ohms.

have you tried the magni? curious on how better the asgard can be. same power. different topology. different quality.

Thanks to all who responded to my question about an amp for the 500's.

Seems like you all like Schitt, somehow when I have listened to Schitt stuff

at the shows it never caught my fancy. I listened to my 500's with a speaker

amp at the SF show and like the sound but I still would like to try the Audio gd

stuff. Anyone with experience  with the 500's and an Audio gd amp/dac combo?

Thanks

Audio GD works well too!

I had the HE-6 and it worked pretty well.

The DAC/amp units are great values and so are the stand alones.

The Audio-Gd Compass 2 is excellent with the HE500, very flexible too.

Yes, Compass 2 is about as modular as it gets. Nearly went for that one.

I occasionally use the HE500 with a predecessor of Audio gd NFB-10.33 and it is good. I happen to prefer it single end when using the velour pads specifically.

I was surprised how well a cheap Audio Gd 15.32 can drive the HE500. I found if had plenty of power and nothing lacking. The warmth also tames that little bit if spike quite well making bit less fatiguing
