+1 i agree with u..when i first started on this thread back in 2011 i almost learned daily about stuff on this thread form 'the originals'.. but somehow they all dissapeared from sight...the he500 was back then a really expensive phone...not midfi for sure moneywise...so i am guessing those guys went upwards...and new people came in..and the new people have a lesser budget/or less impulses to spend money on their rig...and thats okay.. but fact is that the impulse to talk about new expensive stuff is almost a curse here since a year or so.. everything that costs more then 1000usd or thats not standard cable wise is almost a sin on this thread...

i can remember me asking a certain senior member here back in the days about what cable to get and instead of hitting me down saying its waste of money he actualy helped me with my choices...

the way of thinking and acceptance changed over the years on this thread..probably also because the he500 became more known as an affordable phone and bought as such...and that attracts other customers then lets say a stax sr007 customer or a lcd3 customer...or even a orpheus customer etc....and so with other opinions and other (money) priorities...

and i agree..lately we only hear the same people more socializing with each other then actually adding new stuff (like new exciting amps/dacs/cables etc in the higher price range...its all monotone what i read since a year or so about 2 or 3 brands at most... no news about people buying new really exciting special stuff (like me with my new amp as an example)..but i already have peace with that...as he500 customers nowadays are of a different bunch then the ones from 2011...and thats okay... all in my honest opinion ofcourse..

Sorry to hear that nowadays you're slumming it over here. Look at the brightside, you can bring us some excitment with your new amp very soon and get some new monkey wires for your rig.

am sorry my friend..but i wont be doing that.(thats why i also deleted all other posts concerning my new amp..as this is not the right place to do that)..

as its almost like feeding urself to the wolves on this thread..as no one (okay except one or two) will accept that an amp costing (a bit) more then the amps being mentioned on this thread regularly can actually sound as good as it costs... so as soon i have the amp i will just open a new thread about it..or mention it on a BC thread here on headfi..no pun intended... but it wont happen...i learned my lesson..

but as soon i ever buy an emotiva amp or something shiit-like i will post it here.

Understandable. I'm on the same boat. Going to get a Dangerous Music Source and call it a day. Headphones just don't cut it for me. TH-900 are the only hope left for me. Studio monitors all day long.

Sounds like the E10 is going into the closet.

Doubt it. The E10 is a BEAST!!! (when it comes to portability) :D

I can always carry the E10 plugged in to my Macbook around the house. Boom plug in a headphone or line out to speakers. If I like the Source a lot, I might buy a few power supplies for it and put them around the house, so I can move the Source like my E10. Then for sure the E10 will go in the closet…maybe

I use an E18 with my GS3 when on the road or walking about the house. The E18 is surprisingly good. I've even taken the SPDIF out from the E18 as a means of bridging the smartphone to my Bifrost or other desktop DACs. That way the E18 serves as a USB to SPDIF converter, not using its DAC or Amp.

Wow. I just checked out Fiio and now they have so many products now. Back then there was E10, E11, E9, E7 only and Fiio was the flavour of the month almost for all of that year. 2010 and 2011 - Fiio's were everywhere. They were the new craze.

Yeah I think NuWavGuy may have rubbed some people the wrong way. Old mad dog thread comes to mind. Things got a bit nasty in the new sennheiser HD 6,7,and 8 thread as well. Personally I love a good heated headphone debate. Breaks up the monotony.

I kinda don't like the headphone debates here.. Mostly it seems we get nowhere and at best say, 'You think this, I think that, let's agree to disagree'.

Lol, I remember back when someone had to spark an O2 debate once every week or so.. God, was it tedious and many unsubbed this thread in response to it.

This thread was indeed locked, but it wasn't really necessary. A little tension and one dude posting some ****. Glad they cleaned it up, though.

Lol, the O2...

Actually.. I totally agree for once! Well put.. :beerchug:

I came in a little late on this thread compared to some but it was good times. Since it has been kicked from summit-fi (and also before that) it has been going down hill to some extend. Not that I really mind that much.. Don't want this thread to turn into something like the Stax thread. That thread is almost intimidating, especially for newbies.

Well a lot of the last few pages is fluff, but we're waiting on rookie to receive his amp and tell everyone about it, and i'm still really engrossed in my own setup, which I would put at probably the upper limit of what someone would consider mid-fi, or maybe i'm wrong? He-500+NFB 1.32+Mjolnir. Thus far my impressions are oddly, the headphones seem more comfortable, the sound seems very even and more neutral than on my tube amp, and playing any music seems extremely effortless, is the best way to describe it, I feel like I'm listening to everything at a lower volume than I used to without missing any details, and yet cranking the volume is still comfortable and it's hard for me to tell they are there, honestly with my eyes closed and focusing I would swear I was listening to speakers, for whatever reason it just seems overly capable of delivering music more so than before, if anything I'd attribute it to now having enough power with much less distortion and less gain than the EF2a, and a lot less warm than a wa6(which I heard only briefly).

It has however taken it's toll on my music library, some of my Diana Krall recordings now have previously unheard static working it's way into the the audible range, which isn't a fault of the setup, it is just far less forgiving now, good recordings sound stellar, the background is pitch black. Also the presence of the phones I know find I unconsciously nod my head along with music, enough to where I've noticed myself doing it, I can really get into the music and forget I'm wearing headphones, I couldn't do that before, I was always aware of their presence and yet now that seems to not be the case, and I've had these headphones for well over a year! Listening to Ludovico Einaudi's 2013 album nearly made me pass out in my chair, it was sublimely relaxing. Rock I will admit feels a little less engaging than it did before, the bass is not as imposing on the rest of the track, again, this isn't necessarily a bad thing, and it makes the sound more lifelike, guitars and vocals benefit the most here, and for classical the sound stage and instrument separation have improved, all in all i'd say it's a more realistic experience now, compared both to live music and to studio monitors. For anyone willing to take the plunge to a full balanced setup, the Mjolnir is a serious treat, though I will say you MUST be seeking neutrality.

I really want to hear the SPL Phonitor with the HE-500s, if anyone has one I'd love to hear their impressions.

Never really understand when people say they feel like listening to speakers or check whether their speakers are on because it sounds like it.. Speakers and headphones are worlds apart for me no matter which setup I have listened to. My Stax Sigma reminds med of a (very) well acoustically treated room with speakers in it.. But still, worlds apart.

I can kinda relate to the headphone 'dissappearing' as you zone out, though.

Exactly. There is no headphone in the world. Sennheisser, Stax, Audeze, Hifiman. None. Not one of them can throw a soundstage where it seems like the sound is coming from the front rather than a bubble going in or around your head.
