Probably

Sound is pretty stellar. Had to get some longer interconnects to stack it though, due to the way the outputs are on the back of the NFB, and on the back width wise of the Mjolnir. I can say, this setup sounds extremely good, I really can't see myself upgrading source/amp anytime soon, now just to look at headphones :)

Driving my He-500's straight out of My IPad 2 with no amp

It sounds.........surprisingly good, and I'm barely half way through the volume bar too.

They used to make great headphones in their day, I still have a fully functioning pair of MDR-V900's that I got in 1998.

Are they worth $75, IYO, assuming they were new/unused?

Incidentally, that's my brother's tv, he currently has my (newer) trinitron CRT, we swapped them out because he prefers gaming on CRT compared to his plasma, my main TV is a 56" JVC D-ILA, I seem to only buy TVs that get discontinued :o

Nope, you're thinking of MDR-V6's, they ran new $75 on sale. The MDR-V900's were positioned a bit higher up the fedding chain and have 50mm drivers, I don't think many cans had 50mm drvers back then. I hate the coiled cords.

Nope, not mistaken, just pokin' around eBay ;)

Yeah, I kinda dislike coiled cords, too.  Are yours the MDR-V900s or MDR-V900HDs?

I had the original model, I think the marleting pukes at Sony slapped and HD at the end of the model name a few years later to hype the sales. They stopped making them ages ago so anything on eBay is very used and definitely in need of earpads,

You're going to rattle the cages of the wattage crowd. :D

Out of a rockboxed clip zip the HE-500s sound pretty decent, great even, decent when I compare it to the NFB/MJ, do I need 8w? no, but it sure is nice!

Nothing surprising for me personally cuz I always said this from the start.  From my S4 and Samsung tablet, the HE500 sounds very decent; more than enough to enjoy my music though the quality is far from what you would get from Emo.

Be realistic and flexible about your expectation in each situation!
