Just saw this.....congratulations.

I will not recommend it :D

Tried with upa200, not magic smoke, but I got pretty holes instead.

Amazing, Jerg!! Just saw.. Wow, I am inclined to think that Fang won't even lose on this in the end, really makes me respect hifiman even more, though I want one as well ;)

I suppose someone must be pretty happy with your pad mods..

Anyway, xpa-1L on warehouse sale. Someone buy! Class A monoblock ftw!

I still feel bad about it, and wish that we as a community could make it up to you for being the first to really have something happen to their headphone based on this thread :/

The UPA did it? or was it the configuration you had it set to that caused it?

Welcome to the +1500USD HEADPHONE AMP group ..u deserve it..u did lots of good work until now with ur mods..it was only matter of time that mr. Fang reacted..and with this shows his respect for what u did until now..it says a lot about mr. fang..being a hobbyist once also...

Maybe i have to start modify amps also? so i maybe then get a free BC amp? biggrin.gif well..u can always dream right? tongue.gif

Anyway..congrats man! That amp is very powerful and has had good reviews. But u know ur now an enemy of the emotiva clan right? Or shall i say: enemy of the state as its a chinese based amp biggrin.gif u better sent it to me then...its safer that way very_evil_smiley.gif

I can't tell ya, dude. See no reason for it to happen to date, but the upa went into protection mode.. The connection was even balanced and all.

Don't feel too bad about it or anything, hifiman distribution in Germany seems to take good care of it after all, though the wait is very long due to having my local seller email with them, sending the HE-500, get a replacement, ship it to my seller, and now it is stuck at him.. Hopefully I'll get in touch with him soon enough, but it's more than a month since I broke my HFM, actually around 40 days.

How much did this "replacement" cost you? I'm kind of confused as to the process you went through with your broken pair :P

I'm just glad nothing happened to my pair while I was testing it on the Denon receiver... It would have killed me on the inside to see this pair go "poof"

Am sorry to hear that..so next time better stay with a (quality) headphone amp and not messing about with speaker amping ur he500 huh? wink.gif
I still think driving a headphone through a speaker amp by its speakers output always has risks to damage ur sensitive headphones..no matter how careful u are..with an dedicated good quality headphone amp ur risk is almost none to damage ur headphone..
Anyway At least u have ur stax rig to listen to in the meantime wink.gif

The replacemet seems to cost me the shipping only and perhaps a bottle of wine or something, though I'm not sure. It isn't even refurbished pair, brand new I have been told.

I have also got the HE-5le and emo to kill the wait.. and yeah.. Stax Sigma and the T1 amp. And my speakers too.

Do you prefer HE-5LE at all?

To HE-500? Can't tell.. But I think not, as its treble/mids balance is off.

He-500 just received ;-)
The smell was just about gone from my former pair, if you know what I mean tongue.gif
Now it's back
Oh wow, right after we just talked about it! smily_headphones1.gif
How does it feel to have it back? New impressions? :3

Well.. The tonality is more smooth and realistic, which is good. Is all I can say for now.
Need to get some resistance for that emo, though. Not that it's a loud hiss or anything like that..
