That's the guy who will wreck your friend's Audi.  (In best Emperor from Star Wars voice): I have foreseen it.

I've only seen "decent" open cans in the wild once, some dude had his Grado RS-1 straight out of his iPod/iPhone...on the DC Metro train  I had IEMs in at the time so I couldn't hear what he was rocking out to, but you know everyone else did!

Once upon a time I had the Beats by Dr Dre and I got asked more than once if I could turn the music down on the train. Didn't even know other people could hear my music. Never listened to Katy Perry in public ever since.

I have to say you guys are on song today. Laughing at all the comments! :D You guys are going to make me mod my B&W MM-1s into real ear speakers.

Hmmm, that is a brave guy. I once took my RS1s to work and drew a lot of giggles. My co-workers thought they were some relics from the 60s.. Haven't had the guts to pull that trick again. The SR325is on the other hand, shiny is cool!

I was going for the he6 also..but ended up with a very rare beast.. And until now..i am happy with it...
Level 1 on ur amp?..then i am guessing u have around 10 watts into 32 ohms or something? That would be more then enough juice to drive a he6 wink.gif
But a warning...a he6 is a very different phone then the he500... Once u go that way u wont turn back..u have been warned wink.gif

New dac also? Never heard of concero before..will have to google it, as i am always curious for stuff i dont know biggrin.gif

That's the review for the original concero which is like 600$ USD. I have the HD version which has a higher voltage output and a different dac chip and dsd/dxd support which I dont care too much about.

About the Watts on the bakoon. It's really kind of unknown because of the way the bakoon current drive works. It's only rated at 1W as far as I can tell because of how the current drive works.

Speaker and headphone drivers produce sound by emitting vibration caused by electrical current flowing through a magnetic voice coil. Here the drive force of the voice coil F can be represented by this formula: F = I x B (force = current x magnetic field).

As we see, the driving force is generated by current, not voltage. However, when driven by a voltage source with an impedance of Z, we use Ohm’s Law and substitute the above formula with this: I = E/Z (current = voltage/impedance) and F = E/Z x B.When driven by a voltage source, now impedance affects the driving force. The value of Z is comprised of voice coil reactance, capacitance, DC resistance and contact resistance all of which exhibit non-linear behavior to cause distortion errors in the driving force.

So I guess current drive is not affected by impedance. It seems quite complicated from the other stuff that I've read as well. But it's more powerful than a regular voltage out 1W amplifier to be sure.

I consider the HE-500 as portable, within the confines of my home.

During noisy transport I have a pair of Bose QC15's which as of late I've been leaving home and using Sony XBA-3 triple BA IEMs. Since I prefer the sounf of open cans, I use a modd'd pair of HD558's at the office since they don't leak much, nothing at all like my HD600's or HE-500's

I once saw a bang'in chck changing her clothes at a red traffic light. When the light turned green, nobody moved. Don't know if she was driving a VW Golf or a Ferrari as I was too distracted to take notice the type of vehicle but I will tell you that she had great set of headlamps.

However to be able to put out the maximum current the amp still has to be able to reach a high enough voltage in which the headphone's impedance is a factor, Ohms Law.

If it's not in the product literature, one can always try a smoke test.  Let's see 1 Watt at 300 Ohms requires 17.3 V RMS, that ought to burn out a pair of HD800's and make  the listener deaf, all at the same time. 6.2 V RMS for HE-500's, that sounds reasonable, reasonably loud too. But can it deliver 1W at 300 Ohms?

hey guys wondering if someone could try this mod out on the he-500 for me.  not the slicing of the pad but the cotton balls

I have done it, and although it improved on the imaging/soundstage, it didn't do it enough for me to consider it over jergpads.

you didn't even do the cotton balls. you only did the slice.  also the jerg pads literally are just holes in the same spot as the slices.

the cotton balls are the main part of this "mod" that helps the headphone.  it pulls the driver away from the ear and angles the pads.

i have done the jerg mod and didn't do much. this changed things pretty dramatically for me

Might consider when I have some new velours in.

thanks David.  i'm only sharing this because it helped out my he-400's quite a bit.   But then again i had a lot of different things going on that could mess with my impressions.  BAD ear infection, just got my amp back from schiit and if amp burn in is true then maybe that played a role.  It's so simple to do it's silly.  four cotton balls on each side.

? I didn't do it? And how do you assume that?...

Jerg pads also angle the drivers with the back-vent mod...so idk what you're talking about.

The only thing that's different is that it improves on tons of other things..

lemme guess, just because I don't agree with you, you want to assume that I didn't perform your "mod" correctly or something, am I right?
