HiFiman HE-500 (HE as in High End) Proving to be an enjoyable experience in listening. . - Page 730

Rofl, I'm also having endless troubles getting in bed on time while listening the the HE-500 late at night! :beerchug:

Was also thinking yesterday that I've owned the HE-500 for just over 2 years now. Gave them a good look over and they have aged a bit, the SMC connectors are no longer a copper colour the paint has gone on the metal head cup arches and my headphone cable has gone really green. For all that they still sound fantastic!

Yeah, the old ones have that black paint that will peel off. The SPC cable has turned green? where? and which connectors are no longer copper, the headphone part or the cable part?

Either way, they arent going anywhere so nbd right? :)

How did the paint come off of the cup like that? The yoke/gimbals don't touch the cup when it is swiveled so I don't understand why it would be affected.

I roll in both camps, depends on my mood :3

The cups are fine, its just the metal gimbal that lost its paint. I have no idea how the paint got off on those though as the inside still looks okay. But not planning on getting rid of mine any time soon, in fact I'm sure they will fall apart before I am able to sell them. The greenish headphone cable is begging for replacement though...

Trevor of Norse Audio is about to re-open for business so you're in luck as far as a new cable goes.  This is what mine looks like:

Trevor's been absent from the scene with Norse Audio on hold for about 2 1/2 months now.  But just this past week he's re-emerged with a big tease on his website: http://norseaudio.com/

Maybe an idiot question but to really feel the music and the capabilities of my HE-500 I have to set the volume at 11.30 -12 o'clock with the magni (depends on the songs I can stay at 11  but never over 12 o'clock)

Do you think it's too loud ?

One reason I find the HE-500 fatiguing - It sounds best loud.
