Can static shock damage these headphones permanently?

I've had my HE-500 for almost exactly 2 years now, and today my right earcup kept making clicking noises before going almost completely dead. It now has about 5-10% the volume of the left side with random clicking or high pitched whines! Am I screwed?

Normal static shouldn't be a problem as these are low impedance and not sensitive. Perhaps something else happened. They didn't get hit by lightening, did they?

Nope!

I used them yesterday and possibly earlier today without a problem. Can't figure out what I may have done differently to them. Really rather depressing. :(

I'm personally saving for a DA8 from Yulong. I was somewhat interested in the X-Sabre, but my interest has shifted. As for amps I want a Master 9 from Audio-gd. HE-500/LCD-2 combo is keeping me very happy but I'm always tempted to sell and jump for the LCD-X.

Yeah, by that time even the new Schiit stiff will be out, so even more choices. Although until then it's the waiting game. Heard only excellent things about DA8 so far. Master 9 seems like a beast as well. Regarding the HE-500/LCD-2, do it! I sold my HE-500 and LCD-2 after a year for LCD-3. Totally worth it as of right now after having LCD-3 for 6 months. Initially, in theory I thought I was going to miss having two different presentations, but honestly it hasn't been the case for the last 4 months. Also, it takes the best of both worlds and gives it you - thereby eliminating the need for either headphone, so essentially helps you out in the long run. Have you heard the X or 3 yet?

Check cable? random clicking noise is a common common of cable problem.

Jiggle the wires on the headphones and plug. Perhaps you will find a bad connection, It is possible that there's dirt in the headphone out jack on the amp/DAP/cellphone that you plug into. Or that jack is defective. Time to do some detective work.

My amp is on the more budgetside of their projects with the value that i posted here on this thread..its probably most expensive stuff i bought in my house..not even my watch is that expensive! .. :

Just went to the site... so I posted that I want to get the DA8, which is around $1300~ and you want me to jump to $8000 DACs? from a small time guy with a website from the 90s? I hope you've at least heard his DACs before recommending them to others. I'm sure they're great and everything. Anyway, you can talk about Blue Circle without replying to my post if you want to hype it up some more cuz I just wasted my time. Thanks for trying though.

our man is really hoping and believing.  After all, that's a lot of $.  It got to be the shiiit.

@hifimanrookie, at times, I don't know whether to respect you for your bravery or laugh cuz of your craziness.  ;)
Either ways, I wish you the best and I am sure your investment will pay off 100%.

For that much dosh, that schiit better sound like it came from Area 51. I wouldn't be surprised if he got a visit from the MIB's. If we never hear from him again, he was abducted. :D Just fun'in

Well I just hope hifimanrookie doesn't end up dealing with a SinglePower Audio situation here.

I don't think blue circle will be anything like that but yeah, that thread gives you scary thoughts.

Area 51... LMAO.  Thanks for the laugh, Stan.

So, would Bob Lazar work for Blue Circle or Schiit?  Maybe that should read: does Bob Lazar... ;)

or maybe...

his amp is some kind of ancient alien technology, handed down from our extraterrestrial forebears.

The same technology used in Darth Vader's helmet. He has full surround sound and his power supply is the dark side of the force. It can drive an HE-6 well past 140 db SPL, from which there is no turning back.:basshead:  Like look at Yoda's ears and you'll know what I mean.

One thing i learned from own experience..NEW design AND NEW technology doesnt always mean better....some brands dont believe in pumping out new stuff every new year..but keep their tested stuff..tested for years by customers... With blue circle dacs u dont have software issues..or update quirks....it always works! And their products last a lifetime!

U probably wont like Darkvoice products also..as their site is even worse..and their stuff even have older design coming from the middle ages..and it has tubes! OMG the horror biggrin.gif

By the way....Hifiman is not so big also! And mr. Fang from Hifiman is active almost just as long as Gilbert is from BC as far i know.

But as once said....u dont need to believe me...u keep on buying (expensive) shiit that pumps out stuff every other year because people like u need or think new ways is good... And if u take the time to really do ur homework in reading reviews etc u will see ur sooo wrong about ur very negative assumption..

.but I dont mind ur not that kind of person..some dinosauruses here on headfi tried some blue circle stuff and everyone was ecstatic about their stuff..but yeah..they cost ya..but for 1200usd u will get a BC dac..and NO..it wont do DSD (SHIIT) or has HDMI (NAD) connection or even usb3 (NAD?) ..but do we need that? Does ur windows/apple laptop sound better with that? Actually Do u have any DSD media? All questions on which my own answers are NO...BUT IF U want BEST SOUND FOR THE MONEY ..maybe BC could be it...we will see who laughs last biggrin.gif

Ps..until now all my stuff i bought without listening...i did my homework and made the jump..and until now i never had it wrong... This is again a huge jump for me.. But i am willing to have a leap of faith. To get something special...for the money i could have a shiit top rig or yulong or burson or emotiva or any other mass producing brand around..but i wanted something different and unique..and thats what i am getting...if i am wrong..well...me to blame only...BUT..if i am right (just as i was with my 337)... We will see in february tongue.gif

See ya at a meet then with ur da8 wink.gif

Ps..i just read the singlepower thingie..scary! But there is always the risk in that..market is hard.. Even big brands can go bad and go bankrupt.. I have seen very good cable makers going MIA.... It happens..if u do are afraid of that..then just stick to sennheiser, beyer, philips etc..as those will probably exist even after mankind goes bankrupt..heheheeh
