While wa22 is a more refined amp overall, I personally prefer he500 on emotiva.

Here is the another question about the he-500 vs the he-400. Since the he-500 = $700 and the he-400 =$400, does the he-500 perform significantly better than the he-400?

From what I've read, it does seem to perform much better except in the bass region--which the HE-500 still does a great job in especially with the Emotiva

Yea I have heard the he-500 does really well in the bass region. How does the sound signature of the he-500 compare to the typical movie theater sound signature? I like how loud movies like Pacific Rim( and any action movie for that matter ) have deep bass and crisp mids/treble. Thanks for all the help too. I am going to buy these soon so I can put my crap headset in box ;)

Yea they look good! I have to admit that I like the blue color of the he-400's as well. What amp do you use? Do you use the stock cables and ear cups?

Well Now I'm just using the shiit magni/modi because I can't decide what new amp/dac to buy :( I'm using the stock cable but I'll buy the Forza AudioWorks (FAW Noir HPC) & I prefer the velour pads

Do you have some amps that you are considering? I have read that lots of people who own the he-500 love the lyr amp but I know nothing about how it actually sounds other than written comments.

If you're getting the HE-500 get the Emotiva, no doubt. Only reason not to get it would be the need for other inputs, outputs, size, etc.

So right now I may consider :

- Schiit Lyr (but I've also read that it doesn't do anything special..but at the same time the price is very attractive)

- Figaro 339 (but with the right  tubes the price will more than 1000€ so I prefer not)

- Woo WA7

....

P.S: I don't know why exactly but the emotive doesn't appeal to me

Could also show that LCD-2 sells much more than HE500 or that LCD-2 owners are richer on average and upgrade easily to higher Audezes

Or more refined sound.. The emotiva is a powerhouse..but its not the last thing in details and some other thingies in sound...But we cant ask everything from an amp selling for just under 200usd. For that price its a steal.

@koiloco....am confused now.. Does that mean ur dissapointed in ur 2000usd worth of wa22? As ur saying the emotiva drives the he500 better..and if i am not mistaken u bought the wa22 to drive the he500... Right my friend? redface.gif
So ur saying ur using the emotiva more then the wa22 on ur he500? eek.gif

He uses his wa22 for his q701 dummy! And the emotiva is one amp that pairs nearly perfectly in terms of FR with the he-500. Other amps might provide more detail, but I doubt they'd pair as well.

I understand what u mean with what u say about the emotiva..its to flashy cheapish looking to me also..oops. biggrin.gif but many like that!!!

Allthough i loved my 337 (sister of the 339) i have to warn u..u wont cut it with 1000euro...postage alone would be 600usd from china i(if i am not mistaken) and then u have to invest around 300euro in tubes and then u have to buy the amp itself..around 700usd ? And am not even talking about what customs and european (belgium right?) taxes will cost ya..here in holland u pay almost 35% extra on top of total cost!

For us europeans a 337/339 is almost a no deal compared to its competitors u can get here (from dealers/importers) in europe... Or u have to find one second hand on marktplaats/ebay ..and jump on it! biggrin.gif

Dont get me wrong..i owned a modded 337 for 1 year and i loved it!!! I just sold it for 400euro... To a belgium headfi'er.. wink.gif and i am still thinking i had to keep it..it was that good!

In my opinion u could go for a secondhand lyr.. Or a new ef5 from hifiman ( there are several dealers in europe selling hifiman)
And then get a Metrum Octave dac with usb input to go with it... wink.gif
Good luck with ur search!
