downgrading from lyr and bifrost? or just the he500?
the hd650 could be a cheaper alternative for the he500..and then get a cheaper (chinese) tube amp like the darkvoice 3322 instead of the lyr as those pair very well with the hd650..for the dac i dont know any other downgrade i could advice imho as the bifrost is already a lower budget model.

The 3322 is the same price as the LYR and does not touch it.

I'd say HD600 + a good OTL tube amp would be what I'd do in your case.  As for the DAC, there's always the Modi, ODAC, Dragonfly...Matrix M-Stage perhaps?  How much of a downgrade are you thinking?

hmm

I was actually just thinking about downgrading from the He-500. I haven't really been critically listening enough lately. I figured I should just get some powered speakers to run off the Lyr/Bifrost for now.

I was chasing the ortho bass coming from the DT880s to HD650 to He-400, but lately really deep bass hasn't been that important to me. I'm not sure if its just a phase I'm going through right now or what.

At the same time, I'm wondering if I should just keep my HE-500? I bought them new off Head-direct about 4 months ago (so its still relatively new). I honestly don't ever see myself going into summit-fi, so I'm trying to get the best mid-fi system I can

Sooo, what do you want from your music, and what do you listen to..? Which qualities do you seek out from whatever you listen to?

hmmm I listen to a wide variety of music to be honest. From rnb, to hip hop, to jazz, to blues, to edm, to ambient rock/post rock.

I think instead of analyzing the music, I just want to be swept by it and enjoy what is going on. Lately I've been shifting my time into learning the guitar a bit more seriously, so I haven't really been using my HE-500 that much. I would usually just put a track on my computer speakers and try to jam along with it.

It was during my last head-fi meet that had me look into the hifimans. My favorite set up at the meet were the HE-6 with the Liquid fire (before I found out how much both of these items costed lol)

I haven't tried tube rolling with my Lyr yet, so I'm sure not if that will bring something different to the table?

ru sure?...i found the 3322 for 299 usd somewhere on ebay last year...and the lyr is around 500usd right (without tuberolling)? i know the lyr is the better amp..but he wanted to downgrade..and i happen to know the 3322 does well with the hd650 (both downgrades on his recent configuration imho)...

but any good affordable otl tube amp with a hd600 or better yet..the warmer hd650 is perfect to downgrade to..

or get what i had...a matrix m-stage (with opa627 class a mod) with my he400 and my he300..i loved that combo!!and super affordable!

the 3322 was just a suggestion

for the he500 though the 3322 just sucks..

My grandfather loves some "vinho do porto". He's from Benespera by the way, had a farm there before he came to Brasil.

Portugal seems to be a nice place to live. I'll definitely visit it someday.
