Hehehe, nice, with my HE-6 set-up, I can do that too, but I would need wheels on my table and very long ac power cords.

I used this amp mainly with a pair of HD 650 and it does what it is supposed to do: it has way more power than I need, it's quiet and it makes everything sound in its place. I have never heard...

Quote:I am not sure. I haven't listened to the LCD-2 much lately. I want a total grasp of the sound of the 500. Then when I switch, for me, what differences good, bad or just a different rendering of the sound, will be much more obvious. I sometimes throw the 500's in my small back pack with the before mentioned setup, and listen at my destination. I wouldn't do that with the LCD-2 due to the wood. The HE-500 are possibly a more "exciting" phone compared to the LCD-2. That doesn't mean they are better just more jump factor or what may be a faster transient response but that is conjecture and very subjective. There are a lot of if's but the bottom line is, I really enjoy the HE-500. When I get the Lyr I will be able to compare them to the HE-6 with some excellent tubes I have on hand here.

With these top tier orthos my question is not which is better but rather which flavor do you like. The 6 and the 2 both have their merits. If power and portability was not a factor then I can live with either one if I was forced to...but try forcing me. Its the whole picture or the mood I guess. To nit pick I find more pluses with the 6 but I listen to the 2 more.
Schitt amps I find very attractive, I truely like the looks. The tubes though look like you need a spark plug pliers to remove.

I wonder if this thing would work as a tube puller for the Lyr. Saw it on ebay.

That's rubber inside so I guess the rubber would grasp the tube then you can pull it off.
Here's the link.

Wow, I didn't think it would but the Xin Reference drives the HE-500 very well. Nice transparency and sweetness to the sound.

I drive the 6 with the Xin Ref. from time to time and it works quite well so the 500 should be a breeze.

The Xin Macro4 does a better job of driving the 6s than my SP amp. I've given up trying to figure it out. It sounds good and that's a bonus. On the 500s, it does very well.post #102 of 51025/15/11 at 7:12am- mrarroyo

Quote:PLEASE! do not get me started on this.
I have refrained from posting on the Xin Reference since all the problems users have had with the poor delivery/responses. However I have the last two known versions he made with the C5 and D5 and both drive the HE-500 very well. Specially the higher output D5 version.

For anyone who has heard these, how do they perform for rock and metal and are there any others headphones you would recommend for these genres?
Thanks

They sound excellent to me on Rock. Great driving force but on well recorded stuff, good spatial information keeping everything in its place.

I listen to rock and heavy metal on my HE-6 all the time with excellent results so I don't expect the HE-500 to be any different.
