for now only two short words.
the best headphone(among those tested and had)!!!
i tried the he-500 with my beta and with hifiman balanced cable.
honestly i can´t believe.
the he-6 is superior but very hard to drive and the difference with the little sister is not huge.
considering the sale price, the end of the games.
of course, is just my impression but we don´t always to spend a fortune to listen good music.
now i´m really torn between the he-6 and he-500.
if i hold the he-500 i put a new balanced cable(hardwired) and denon pads(already boughts)
the problem is that the beta is too powerful for this headphone.
suggestions for another balanced SS?

I'd say keep both and get a speaker amp with adjustable gain, and two speaker terminals

Or you could try using attenuator with the B22, there's the 10dB and 20dB version. Lowering the gain with the B22 is messy (changing R/Cap/DC offset) - you could add extra attenuator at the input too, the solution is posted on the internet.

I couldn't agree more. I've found my own little music nirvana/bliss with the simple set up of Concero to Mini-X to HE-500. It's the nicest rig I could build on a tight budget, but it allows me to enjoy my music and not think about gear.

I've given into temptation and ordered a Decware Taboo MKIII because, well, just because I can.  It was designed with the LCD-2 in mind, but I'm hoping it will work well with my HE-500 as well.  I'm not too worried, though, as I will also use it to drive speakers and will probably end up getting some Audeze cans sooner or later too.

Does anyone where you can get these headphones in the UK besides Electromod? It seems a bit ridiculous that they can just swap the dollar sign for a pound one and charge us over £200 more.

Hifiman declared I think around $20 for me. Also, the shipping is quite cheap.

Is there much risk involved in declaring a lower value, do they don't get thrown around more for example?

The main risk is that if the package is lost or damaged, the compensation you'll receive is proportionate to the declared value (depends on the courier, but the best case you won't get anything more than the declared value).

If buying new, I'm sure Hifiman would fix the damages (you pay for the shipping cost back to them). But if the package is lost, you're entirely at the seller's mercy - since the package is basically yours the moment it was shipped.

The other thing, even if you label your package as $10000, and wrapped it with "Fragile" tape, it'll still get thrown around mercilessly

I am about to by Hifiman HE-500 or HE-400. It is not possible for my to try them out. So I am asking you for advise.

Today I am using a Hifiman 601 with Headstage Arrow 4g. I am wondering if the Arrow will be able to give the HE-500 enough power to sound good until I will be able to by a new amp. Or if it is better to go with HE-400?

I really like to walk around at home with the headphons, so I am thinking portable amp.

I think it would be best for me to by HE-500 if its ok with my Arrow, and then uppgrade the amp later on when I have the money. Rather than go for HE-400, and then regret it because of a inferior headphone.

Do you have any thaughts to share?
