With your equipment, I would play it with about 6 hours, or below the max limit suggested for your amp. Let your amp cool down and then listen to it after a break when the tubes have cooled down.

 

Even with solid state amps, I never really played for more than 10 hours straight. HE-500 drivers are supposed to be good at removing heat but I just didn't bother messing with them too much. 10 hours was the max for me with an hour or two of breaks. 

+1 i agree...use a simple cheap ss amp to burn it in continiously..i did it with my trustful matrix mstage...a week nonstop in a not used room..

Yea, exactly. Some people even put it in their sock drawers to reduce noise. I'm always shocked when I hear that. $700 headphones with those stock silver cables!!!! Might as well donate the money to Hifiman.

I think you're talking power where roadcykler was talking sound quality. I do agree that sound does not change much between (well designed) amps--it's very, very subtle. Where a headphone is being plain underdriven, that's a different thing.

I sgree with u..plNrs need some headroom of extra power..BUT..maybe its better to say they need QUALITY power..not just raw power..and  no matter the power it has..if it doesnt synergize with the phone u have it doesnt matter how powerfull it is..synergy is the secret ingredient..

like he 500 is perfect with 337

but 337 not so with lcd 2 and 3

but lcd 2/3 do perfectly with v200

hd800 is horrible with 337 ( i actually bought my amp from a newly owner of ahd800)

but bada amp does perfectly with the hd800

and so the list can go on and on and on..

...Also let's not forget that DAC's are just as crucial with these type of high end planars.

There's one now. I stand by my original statement and unless someone can produce objective, measurable results, my opinion won't change, but that's another forum.

I was simply trying to counter what I believe to be a foolish opinion for the benefit of another.

I understand and I don't rely solely on measurements but when claims are made that cable xxx or amp xxx sounds "faster" or "crisper" I think it's mostly marketing/placebo/hope. But, each of us hears differently so maybe you or others can hear things I can't or maybe you or others hear things that aren't really there. I don't know.

Weird though that some of you guys liking the HD700.

I heard the HD700 and it left me a bit unimpressed. It's a bit like Sennheiser deliberately slotted the HD700 between the HD650 and HD800 so perfectly in everything (price, SQ, quality...) that it sounds as if it can sound much better but can't because it mustn't excel the HD800.

I would take the HE-500 any day over the HD700.
