From what I understand the resistance can matter depending on the amp.  For instance, the channel imbalance is much more noticeable on my tube amp.  Barely noticeably on my SS.

Either way, it is nice that a replacement is available for a reasonable cost.  Not much more expensive than replacing just the earpads on my HD800 or a headband on the HD650.

First the cable goes bad, now looks like we have to worry about the headband next. Disappointing.

It shouldn't snap unless you mishandle (like in the case of jono); it IS a weak point in the design, but not quite a defect. I think I've only ever seen 2 headband extender snapping accidents happen with Hifiman cans on head-fi ever, jono being one of them.

There are headphone design choices with significantly higher failure rates; and those guys just call their headphones "delicate".

For me to screw it back in correctly i had to make a small incision just enough to fit a small phillips screw driver.

I would have a heart attack if I actually owned this $700 dollar headphone and that happened to me. I'm not the biggest fan of the build quality, of all hifiman headphones.

Yea i kind of had a miniature heart attack when it happened to me. It happened so fast i didn't know how to react =/

Thankfully i was able to screw it back on...temporarily =(

Going back to the DT990 is just so dissapointing. The HE-500s are in a TOTALLY different league than the DT990s.

all companies occasionally have problems and sometimes sh&t happens. My pair of HE-500s are the sturdiest headphones I have owned and the build quality is great. Their customer service is also usually excellent. 

just got my Norse Audio Skuld cable 

headphones look alot nicer now!

I love Norse! Trevor is amazing to deal with.

Don't do it!  The HE-6s are much better
