Since I've gotten my IKEA banana holder, my HE-500 has been dropping sub-atomic bass left and right. How deep is the bass? Well, I would suspect it's even too deep even for Adele to roll in.

 

Recently, I've also upgraded my amp to a Black & Decker Toaster - the sound as expected, has been quite warm and crunchy. There is smoke coming out of the HE-500 drivers. I'm sure it's no cause for alarm.

This is the true.  However, then the amp comes into question.  But yes.  All these cables are already top flight.  It's only so much one top of the line aftermarket cable can do over another top of the line aftermarket cable.  What DAC is being used?  Maybe that can be upgraded instead of cables?

Not only that..i also have the rca cable made of the same wire as the headphone cable (i did same with the dhc cable last year with special rhodium carbon connectors from valab).. And trust me u dont wanna know what i paid for the powercables ( i needed 2 for my amp as u can see on my pics) ...but its worth it i think..and soon the ultimo cable with 12 or 8 conductors/wires...lolz..and end of this year i will go for the he6..or a second hand lcd 3..this is one sick hobby when u start..and did i tell u how much my 5998 tung sols costed in my amp..lolz.. Poor wallet...well its better to spend money on this then on drugs,alcohol or...... No i wont say s.e.x.. Lolz....i spend it on my cars, pc, audio and my family..and ut makes me a very happy man..biggrin.gif

i need/want one also..maybe a groupbuy???? For discount??? Anyone has experience with that?rolleyes.gif

At this moment i use my dap as source on line out into my amp..an excellent hifiman hm602..BUT..when my tax return comes in in may i will order this: a stello u3 spdif and a metrum octave dac..that will push my rig into uberspace of sound...and in meantime (2 months delivery time)i will receive my new toxic cables 12 or 8 conductor black widows 22 awg cable. Damn this year is expensive...need to finish my game pc also..its halfway..it has to be crysis 3 proof on max.biggrin.gif

Just got an e-mail back from TTVJ on the HE-500s I placed an order for. Seems their sale was just a little too popular and they'll have to wait for some more stock before sending them but I'm okay with that. I've waited this long, just a bit more plus saving a decent amount on some fantastic headphones isn't bad at all. Hopefully I'll receive my Asgard 2 before the headphones so at least I won't be temped to use them in a sub-par listening environment.

But I do think you are massively overspending on cables...

The difference [if any] compared to amp/DAC upgrades is smaller.

Upgrading your amp/DAC can already show only so much difference... that should be saying

Anyway spending so much on Hifiman cables and then getting an LCD-3... blink.gif

The HE-6 would be the next logical step IMO beerchug.gif

Ur right..and i dont mind u trying to give advice...we are all buddies here ..but i just want something special..and fun part is that selling the cables/he500/hm602 is not to hard...i know the cables wont upgrade my rig a lot..probably details in low and mid because of the more conductors...but that dac and the stello will make a huge difference compared to my excellent hm602 i understand...

and honestly..i probably will go for a he6 and then start finding a vintage marantz amp to drive it..and yep u guessed it..my 337 will be on sale also then..
