I have to agree with Frank on this one.  Also, just to note:  The T1 amp requirements may be more demanding than the 500s.  I find my B22 does in fact bring out the best of the T1. The bass on the T1 is more accurate when compared to the 500s - not as deep in the sub bass area but more accuracy as across the spectrum.  I find the treble on the 500s to be much smoother but the energy is about the same.  Again the T1 is not as forgiving as the 500s are thus make it more transparent - the 500s are a warmer headphone by far.

 

I like the 880s as well but the T1 IMO is a step above.

The HE-500 is in a whole other league than either though.


I had the 880/600 and gave it up for the T1.  They have similar highs but I find the T1 has that bass that was lacking in the 880/600.  Whether the sonic difference is worth the $$$ difference is another matter.

I should clarify best and preferred ;)  

 

The 880/600 is the best headphone they make on technicals, the T1 is still preferred by many.  It's the case of preferring looser control, longer decay and added treble dB which has the 'benefit' of greater presence across the board and reinforcing details by having them hang around at a higher level to be 'heard'.  Like an anti HD800.

 

The T1 is not alone by any means in this respect.  So it's more a matter of fact, than an insult.

Yes I agree, clearly the T1 is more superior than the DT880 in terms of both technicaly and soundquality, but for me the DT880 got it's own charm against the T1 same as the HE-500 to the HE-6, both the DT880 and the HE-500 is among the best sounding headphones under $700 that doesn't demand a high-end setup to make them sings

Musical-sounding and fun-sounding are typically somewhat of a dichotomy though; musical typically encompasses a euphonic midrange with bloom, sweet treble, and textured bass with lots of weight; while fun typically points to emphasis in treble, less midrange in general (except maybe upper mids where the bite is) and punchy slightly emphasized bass.

The wait for my HE-500s to come in is awful (was dealing with Headphone Bar and they seem to be out of stock... being a Canadian head-fi enthusiast is pretty inconvenient sometimes). Though, without the Asgard to go with my Bifrost, I suppose it'd be moot anyway. I read this thread once in a while to keep reminding myself the wait will be worth it.

Actually I tested the 990 and 880 before finalizing myself with the HE-500, I prefer the 990 as it's more fun. Ppl that likes neutrality and delicate sound should go for 880.

Arrgghhh I'm powering up my HE-500 with my O2 and I'm still looking for a good replacement. Ideas?
