How much Gain for iems?

Hey Guys,
i'd soon be building a Mini^3 after my exams are over, i.e after the 1st of may.a few days ago i read an article about "Gain" on diyAudio, it was the Gain or Not to Gain article you guys might have read, and that makes me question,
my in ears are the RE-ZEROs,
16 ohm impedance, senstivity is 100db/1mw
max input is 30mW.
I am primarily going to use it as
Sansa Fuze>LOD>Mini^3,
so i want to know, what gain should i set? Also, if in future i might go for the Grado SR60i s, then what gain would do good for both?
Also, i would be using these with the 0s, which are 64 ohms, and 103db/1mw.

The Mini³ is not the best choice for IEMs - AMB says that himself.

It was designed to drive "big" headphones.

 

I had one and there was noticable hiss with my triple.fi - with a gain of 2.

2 was still to high for the triple.fi - you should chosse a gain of one for

whatever amp you decide to buy/build.

 

At the moment I use a Meier Audio 2Move with a gain of 1, it even drives

my DT880 to a good level - but I'm not a very load listener.

i didn't get to read anywhere that a Mini^3 is not good for iems.i was primarily going to use the amp with my iems.i might mod the mini^3 with selectable gain, but that would require thoroughly reading the documentation.i guess gain would be selectible through changing cap or resistance values as it is with other amps.but incase i encounter any hissing, are there any mods to counter that?
I might build a small cmoy or a cmoy2 to see what works better, hoping for the best, lets see what works the best.

Use the lowest gain that your chosen op amp is stable at. 

 

Tangent goes into some detail about reducing hiss in his article about "dealing with cranky op amps." There are other more detailed articles on this in specific elsewhere that you can look up after that one.

Dont worry, someone who understands maybe half of what Ti does about the amp he designed will tell you what they think you want to know if you ask. In the end you get less than 1/4 of the information from reading it yourself, but dont let that stop you from doing the bare minimum to build an amplifier.

 

The real value in reading the documentation is not even really for this amp, it is for amps you will build in the future where you may come across a problem or question that the designer assumed you would understand how to navigate because you have encountered it before on a simpler project.
