MTPG Light on Bass??

Okay, so just recently I bought the MTPC and MTPG from the refurb deal that went on. I burned both of them in for 100hours a peice (with brown, white, and pink alternations with 10min breaks). I was doing an A and B comparison between the two with an RSA predator linked to an Ipod touch. For all intensive purposes I listened to my customs (TF10 reshells) and my standard Monster Turbines. Then I took at a listen to the Copper and the Golds. Both of them have a decent amount of bass; however, I couldn't hear a "significant" difference in the low spectra. The coppers are way more detailed in the highs (sparkles a lot more than the golds). It may be my ears, but the bass in the golds fell short of what I expected? A lot less than my TF10 reshells and the monster turbines... Seal is not an issue as I was using the same tips from my MTs. I expected the MTPC to sound the way they do (and omg they are so sexy); however, not the MTPGs.

Track sample used: Bar 9 - Strung out (dubstep. Not a fan of dubstep but it is the most bass extensive song I could find with the exception of Slipknot)

I just got my golds today from a fellow head-fier who purchased them during the refurb deal and I am not finding the bass light whatsoever. They definitely have more bass than my PFE 112's but it does not overpower the mids or highs. The PFE's are definitely more detailed on top but the midrange is about the same. The Golds are definitely a lot more fun to listen to though so I think they are keepers.

either your golds are broken, your fit stinks or you listen at low volumes.  Monsters don't do well without power.  Golds > TF10 in bass quatity.  Better bass too IMO.

I agree with Anaxilus. Owned all Turbine models (except pearls) and the Golds definitely had the most bass.

As I wear my Triple Flange with my Golds, they seem to kick the lows in more with a sure seal. It definitely wasn't a seal issue? I felt like the headphones had a full seal. I was using Super gel tips that it came with. It may have been that the tips were to big and didn't fit in my ear properly. I use the same tips with my MT standards and didn't have a problem (shrugs)

I do listen to music at low volumes. At least enough to hear music.

I finally gave up on my MT golds and decided to send it back. One of my friends had a pair and I listened to them and there were a couple things I noticed. The highs in his pair weren't as muffled as they were in my pair. The lows were DEFINITELY there; The golds are not shy on the lows at all. So I RMA'd them in a hopes to get a better pair.

The bass definitely settles down with burn-in, and the treble gets smoothened over. So how many hours does your friend have on his MTPGs? Could be different stages of the drivers' life that's causing the difference.

Sounds like a lemon. Good luck with your next pair of headphones

I never thought the MTPG was a bass monster.  I know people say they are, but I disagree.  The low end response is pretty flat and well controlled.  The MTPG is thickly textured which helps make the presence more hearty.  Really, I've never got why people say they are so bass strong.  They simply are not versus other options.  The Triple.Fi 10 is more emphasized but so is the IE8, W3, or well a slew of other options.  I personally found the MTPG to be pretty well balanced overall.  The treble was a little too smoothed off for me and the driver is a little sluggish for complex stuff, but it's a nice earphone that's more balanced than people give them credit for.

He got them new from Amazon just about a week or two ago (it was after the sale and he felt horrible he missed the sale so he bought a pair online) So it was a pretty early stage. It might have been that my turbines have been used that they showed that flat response and my buddies was new. He usually listens to his over ear cans more than his MTPGs so it is probably not used very often. I do have to agree with MVW2 concerning the highs. The lows were there (from last I recalled listening to my buddies) and was pretty well defined. I thought the mids were fairly emphasized as most of the mid-range vocalists didn't sound integrated into the background (like a lot of good headphones do. Makes it feel like you are listening to the kick drum and high snares the whole entire song as opposed to the vocalist who seems more towards the back. It might be because I like the drummers in my groups, but taking it from an unbiased standpoint it is still noticeable. Some people would disagree with me, but this happens a lot.) So it is a good pair of headphones and worth the buy (especially the sale that it was at). Whether or not mine was a lemon; I don't know it is hard to tell. The fact that the highs were fairly sibilant and muffled made me worry a lot. The lows weren't bothersome, it was something I could "deal" with. I liked the lows on the coppers as they were flat with the rest of its frequency and mine had somewhat the same response. Pretty well defined and a little bold (without having an overwhelming bleed into the mids). But the highs was something I wasn't going to stand for. My friends highs were alright (not great) but it definitely was better than the highs that were present in my pair. So I RMA'd lol.
