Essence STX vs Fiio e7?

Thread Starter

so right now I have the Xonar Essence STX it gets a lot of praise for being a really good sound card. But the problem is I have opened up pnadoras box by buying the beyer dt880s...now I realize that buying a dac should come before buying an amp since it gives the better upgrade. But I'll probably get both the quesiton is, will there be a big difference if I replace my STX with the e7 and then add the e9 to it?

What else would be a better dac option without having to spend soo much on it?

The Xonar Essence has a DAC and headphone AMP in it. so what are you exactly looking for?

STX > E9 should be much better than E7 > E9.

E7 is more portable, but alone not suitable for DT880.

What about the Asus Xonar DS?

What would be better

The FiiO E9 and E7 or E9 and DS?

Please clarify for me!

Audinst MX1?

I wonder if this thing is any good.

And this one.

The budget HLLY units are good, too, I think.  I could be wrong.

There's more on fleabay, then you can just check for reviews with google or search head-fi.  You want to avoid HA-Info gear.

I have used an STX with the DT880 600 ohm version.  The STX has a built-in headphone amp which can easily drive them.
