Need help choosing 5.1 suround system.

Hi, I just bought my first big size HDTV a week ago (Hannpree ST42DMSB) and I'm now looking for a 5.1 sound system on a budget.

I never owned surround sound, so I dont need the best but I do appreciate good sound I'm into audiophile headphones so I have an idea.. My budget is $400. I will be using it for PS3, 360 and TV. My room dimensions are 15x13. The TV will be in the middle of the 15ft wall.

The Tv has no audio out jack. how does that effect hooking up the surround sound? Also, the TV will be placed against a double window that is 6x4. Will that effect anything? I will have black shades on those windows.

Any Help is greatly appreciated.

PS. When I clean my room, I will post a picture so you guys can have a better Idea.

IMO a two speaker setup or a 2.1 setup is better. I love vintage and you get more for the money. I would get a Marantz amp and some vintage Klipsch's.

some more ideas...

one package, and be done with it: Polk Audio RM6750 5.1

or...

Polk Audio RTI A1

Polk Audio CS10

Polk Audio PSW10

note: for the second option an amp/receiver is needed, so are cables to connect everything, and preferably a pair of stands too, which is all easily going to overflow your budget.

considering that it is mainly for TV and games I'd say the first option would be my choice: easy set up, and no additional costs. of course, the second option will have better SQ.

Thanks for the suggestion cifani and I understand a 2.1 would sound better for my price range. But I'm very interested in 5.1 so I'm gunna up my price range.

Lenni thanks for the suggestions. I Will look at them when I get home (using brothers iPhone) but since I'm upping my price range what do u think of the energy classic 5.1 system? It's 400$ on amazon and the reviews are great.

Here it is. http://www.amazon.com/Energy-Classic-Theater-System-Black/dp/B001202C44/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top

Lenni, what do you think of that set compared to the choices you gave me?

the Take Classic seems a good choice to me. lot's of positive reviews. it seems to be one of their most popular systems. winner!

another set you may consider within your budget: RC-Micro 5.1

from their website, Energy's also seem to have a free Sub's offer with some of their speakers systems.

good choice beerchug.gif

Ok, im most likey going to get the classics. I dont know how much better the micros are compared to the classics so i'll probly stick with the classics.

Now all i need is a receiver. Do you know any good receivers that would work good with the classics?. Im absolutely clueless when it comes to receivers and the different features one can have over a another beides it being 5.1, 7.1, 7.2, 9.1 ect and how many watts each channel can handle.

I've never owned a 5.1 system, so I'm not sure about all these receiver's features, but most likely you won't have to worry about features like 7.1, 3D, etc.. unless you're planning on getting a 3D TV. I think you'll get more answers on a forum specific to HT like Audioholic.

a couple of choices: Denon AVR1610 or Onkyo TX-SR308

more features... more expensive...

check this site for more receivers: A4L

I think by sight alone the main difference between the two systems seems to be the sub. the micro's sub looks like to deliver perhaps a more accurate, more powerful response than the classic's.

if you end up getting the classic, it'd be interesting to hear your impressions.

Yea, I'm leaning towards the classics. Thanks for the receiver suggestions. I'm will be buying the speakers and receivers when my brother gets home from florida because we're splitting it. I didnt get my Tv yet either. I got site to store shipping at walmart and it gets their on May 2nd. So when I get everything set up I will be buying the speakers and receiver and then give you my impressions on it.

I will most likely think they're great considering I never used or owned surround sound before, plus its going in my bed room, which is big for a bed room (15 x 12) but still much smaller than a living room.

Thanks for all the help.
