essence st or amplifier

Hi guys, i finally setup my essence st+the h6 and truly the sound is great with the promedia ultra 5.1 but my intention is to build my 7.1 system around the essence st &h6 so i'm here seeking help...
is it possible for me to simply connect my 10gauge speaker wires from the multi-channel RCA directly to my speakers (right now i'm looking at the quintet SL) and a yamaha sub...
so will the st & h6 be able to power those speakers directly maybe with a mod (opamps?) or do i need to buy an external amp...i'm tryna avoid buying a receiver
Your response will be greatly appreciated.

You will need a seperate multichannel amp or receiver unless you get powered speakers. Niether the H6 or ST cards amps are designed to power unpowered speakers directly. If you go to the pro-semipro market you can get good quality internally biamped speakers for relatively low cost. Probably cheaper than going the receiver & unpowered speaker route in the long run.

thanks germanium, what brand of powered speakers can you recommend? I'm kinda used to live/bright sound i get with klipsch horn driven speakers, plus i know they are somewhat high sensitivity speakers...so with that in mind what brand names can i check out. and also i have perused the entire site and i believe i've heard mention of some kinda small discrete amp that i can run the RCA outputs through and then run that to the speakers....? thanks for earlier rapid response wink.gif

The Yamaha HS50M are kind of bright sounding & may be to your liking though there is a slight phasyness to thier mids. M-Audio BX5a's are also somewhat bright, have better bass the my BX5's had stock but still not as much or as good as mine after mods. Bass is tight & well defined , just not quite enough of it. Augmenting with a sub is definately recommended in  both cases. Tannoy with the 5" woofers have enough bass & should be bright enough but they are lacking in amp power. All these speakers are at the very low end of the Pro, Semi-Pro price catagory & typically cost around 300 dollars a pair which may seem somewhat expensive but not when you consider they are Bi-Amped & don't need an external amp. For a 7.1 setup you will be spending about 1050 dollars on satilites. You could buy a cheasy receiver/ surround setup for cheaper but I garantee that any of  these Bi-Amped speakers will sound more to your liking than the cheasy box set.
