What is a P-to-S Cable?!

Hey guys,

I've been doing some research on this website (A lot actually) and decided to get a pair of Shure SE315's.

I just saw something on a P-to-S adapter and have read a little on them but am still not clear on what they do or how they work, so I'd love an explanation. It sounds like kind of a homemade amp from what I can deduce...?

And I love experimenting with homemade things, so I'd love to know how to make one.

Thanks!

Dan

I'm guessing it's the adapter for the Etymotic ER-4P to turn it into an ER-4S. As I understand, it's just an impedance adapter.

How would they work with other headphones?

It's hard to say. You'll notice more difference with some headphones and less with others. Along with that, the changes are not necessarily the same for all headphones. In general, I wouldn't use an impedance adapter if I didn't have to for some reason, but it is relatively easy and cheap to build one so you might try anyway.

Thanks man. I'm still not exactly sure how to make one.

It's a simple soldering job. If you take a look around the DIY subsection here at Head-Fi, I'm sure you'll find all the information you need. smile.gif
