Budget amp/dac/receivers for output from MacBook Pro via Toslink optical

Thread Starter

These forums are always great place to learn, which I need to do.  I am going to be running either Pure Music or Fidelia on my MacBook and looking for what most would call a budget amp+dac, or something to output to and then to connect my PSB bookshelp speakers.

Have looked at the following:

Onkyo TX-NR609 A/V receiver

NAD C326BEE integrated amp + HRT MusicStreamer II Dac

Emotiva XDA-1 preamp/Dac+Emotiva UPA-2 power amplifier

Music Hall a.25.2 integrated amp+HRT MusicStreamer II Dac

and the beat goes on..........

Also looked at some of the Cambridge Audio integrated amps + the HRT.  Would consider the Dacmagic they make but slightly above my financial ceiling.

Can anyone give me some preferences/experiences/etc?

The NAD combo would run about $550.

The Onkyo receiver runs $499

The Emotiva combo $600 to $800

The Music Hall combo at $500

Correction to subject:  The solutions using the HRT MusicStreamer II are USB out from the Mac, not Toslink.
