Has anyone tried AstoundSound for HD 4D "binaural" audio on their Mac or PC? - Page 2

To be fair, it does work better on certain types of music than others. When it's good, it's quite good, when it's bad, it sounds terrible.
I'm actually quite upset that it isn't compatible with 5.1 surround at all as they claimed it would on their website. mad.gif

I was turning the effect on and off for the first few days depending on the music, but now I just leave it on level one for the most part. Like Pure Music I still prefer it in general to not having it, so I ponied up for the license 5 days into the trial. The price was $25, a $15 discount from the list price, down from a $19 discount if I had bought it immediately.

That's a bummer, the surround cues are not giving you "directional immersion"? I wonder what they would say if you contacted them, if they could assist with your setup to make sure you are feeding the surround audio to AstoundSound the way it wants it. I am not doubting you, and I have not tried the movie mode yet--just wondering if they could help. Are you sure you are feeding it with properly-encoded encoded Dolby Digital or DTS signal?

Actually, you are right, I was talking complete rubbish, it actually works very well with DVD movies, it can decode dts 5.1 surround pretty well. I was trying out my Genesis 5.1 surround mixes yesterday and there was a lot of sound level pumping going on, maybe it doesn't work well with dts 96/24. And I think you are also right about the setting, level 1 is the best, level 3 actually gives less surround effect and creates a lot of digital noises sometimes. I think it works better with digital recordings, especially classical and hip-hop; with a lot of older analogue recordings, it seems to add a lot of digital noises and distortions to them. It's definitely worth paying $20 dollars for although there is room for improvement. cool.gif
