Confirmed: Shure SRH940 Velour Ear Pads Will Fit SRH840

As of now, the part number is HPAEC940. Shure says the pads should be available as spares/accessories approximately 8-weeks after the SRH940 is released.

Cool! I'm interested in how it might affect ATH-M50's sound if someone were to try that. Is the SRH940 velour pad larger or smaller or of identical size to SRH840 pleather pad?

'Sorry, but I don't know what the dimensions are. My exchange with Shure was via email, and they only said that they would fit.

There are several stores online that are showing the part number, but it appears that they simply took the information publicly provided by Shure several months ago and listed it on their sites 'in anticipation' of having the parts available. I wouldn't order anything until Shure confirms availability, then make sure the vendor actually has the parts in stock - not on some bogus 8-week+ backorder.

You might have to contact Shure HQ outside of Chicago, since they appear to handle the US and Canada from that office. Go to Shure.com and navigate to Contact Us.

The opposite is also true with the SRH-840. Less bass with SRH-940 pads gives you better detail on the bass, but it did sound like an abrupt EQ to lower bass quantities, resulting in a somewhat hollow feeling on the low frequencies while adding some low treble to the mix. Let’s face it, the engineers at Shure knows their business and both the SRH-940 and the SRH-840 work best with the stock pads on. If you happen to feel that one headphone is not quite right, the best solution is to change to the other model entirely.

I got a pair of the SRH940 pads for my SRH840, and honestly, I don't think there's a significant difference, if any.

 

Perhaps my gear is not "high end" enough rolleyes.gif

 

Get a pair and try them!

I actually found the 940 pads on the 840s to ruin the sound slightly. Granted, it's small, but what it does do to the sound, is for the worse. It tones down the sub bass, heightens the mid bass and tames the treble even more to me. 840 pads on 940s is also just.... No. However, 840 pads on 440's is magical.

In what way are the 840 pads magical on the 440?  Comfort or sound or both?  I was hopeful that the velour 940 pads would make my 440's more comfortable, but if it ruins the sound, then I won't try it.  Should I try the 840 pads then?

I dont really do earpad swaps, I did that on my MDR-V6's, and several other headphones, put some velour pads on, and absolutely hated the sound, and switched back to the pleather pads. I have to agree with a poster above. Shure engineered these bad boys with the pads they came with, and they engineered them well. I may try the 940 pads on these when the OEM ones wear out, and before I put the replacement pads on just for kicks, but so far earpad material swaps have not gone well for me. velour would be more comfortable, but then again to me the OEM pads on the srh840's are comfortable
